Chapter 47
A ski resort located in the northern suburbs was tagged as the location. Everything that could be seen through the window was covered in snow.
Other people could also be spotted in the selfie that Nicole took. William’s face appeared right in the center of the photo.
He had on a white ski suit. The sleek lines of the sportswear made him look even taller. Some of William’s hair, which fell naturally over his forehead, gave him a laid–back, relaxed vibe.
William appeared to be talking to the person next to him. He had a cigarette wedged between his fingers as he smiled slightly, seeming to be in a good mood.
Scarlet’s gaze fell on Nicole’s caption.
“It’s my first time skiing. I’m so happy! Many thanks to my dear coach for your kind patience.”
It was obvious Nicole was referring to William through those words.
Scarlet would be lying if she said she didn’t feel sad at all while looking at Nicole’s smiling face in the photo.
Frankly, William didn’t break his promise. He had simply chosen to teach someone else how to ski.
It was pretty normal to have a few drinks during these outings. At some point, someone brought up the news of Scarlet getting divorced.
Scarlet was very beautiful. Any rumors or scandals related to her would spread quickly since almost everyone working at the hospital knew her.
“Dr. Benson is such a nice, pretty, and capable person. How ignorant her husband must be that he decided to have an affair! Could his mistress be as beautiful as an angel?”
“Let me tell you this… Men are foolish and greedy! They would never be satisfied, no matter how great their wives are.
“The anesthesia department’s director had an affair with one of our nurses, and even I look prettier than her. I also heard that the man had even paid to receive services from prostitutes.
“His wife was a really lovely lady. Her father works for the public prosecutor’s office, and their family is quite well–off.”
The lady sharing these details sounded more and more furious as she went on telling everyone what happened. Most of the men there looked rather awkward and flustered after hearing the story.
Someone cleared their throat and tried to change the topic. “I’m sure Dr. Benson won’t have any problem finding herself a new partner after the divorce. You guys don’t have to worry so much about it.”
The male colleague who drove the car just now was as red as a tomato after having a few drinks. While feeling slightly tipsy, he asked brazenly, “Why don’t you consider dating one of our male colleagues? What do you think of me?”
One of the ladies retorted bluntly, “I think you’ll look like a dwarf beside her.”
Everyone else burst into laughter upon hearing those words. Meanwhile, the male colleague’s face grew even redder as he felt rather embarrassed.
Scarlet drank whenever someone made a toast to her since they were either her colleague or superior. She was feeling a bit tipsy by the time they decided to call it a night.
She politely declined a male colleague’s offer to take her home and hailed a cab.
Scarlet leaned back against the seat and rested for a bit since she was feeling a little dizzy. When the driver told her they had arrived at the destination, Scarlet got out and found that she wasn’t at Wolke Bay. Instead, she was standing outside the villa located in the northern suburbs.

She was probably quite drunk to have given the driver the wrong address.
Scarlet was someone who would grow attached to things and places that held a lot of sentimental value to her. That was why she asked for this villa when William gave her a chance to voice her demands.
While the house could indeed be sold for a high price, the main reason Scarlet wanted the villa was that this place once meant a lot to her.
Unfortunately, William refused to let her have it.
Since she was already there, Scarlet walked up the steps and opened the door.
She had actually dropped by several times during the past two years, back when William had just left for Nevaia. Eventually, she stopped coming here as she slowly got over what happened.
Even though the villa was mostly uninhabited, the property manager would come here regularly to clean the place and check everything. During winter, they would also turn on the heater in the villa in case the owner suddenly decided to come over and stay here.
Consequently, the property management fees were rather costly. William was right–Scarlet wouldn’t be able to afford those fees with her current salary.
Without turning on the lights, Scarlet walked over to the couch in the living room and sat down.
She was feeling quite tipsy because of the drinks she had during dinner. She lay on the couch and curled herself into a ball. Being in a place she was familiar with brought back some memories.
William had been really good to her during those six months. Like a sweet candy that melted her heart, William was extremely kind and gentle to her. Yet, Scarlet didn’t realize that what was hidden inside the candy was lethal poison.
The lights that were suddenly turned on were a bit too bright for Scarlet’s eyes. She instinctively raised her arm to block the lights. Once her eyes had gotten used to the brightness, Scarlet sat up on the couch.
She paused momentarily when she saw the man in his nightgown walking down the stairs. For a moment, Scarlet couldn’t tell whether she was hallucinating because she had drunk too much.
Even though the belt of the black, silk nightgown William was wearing was loosely tied, the outline of his sculptured chest and abdomen was still visible under the thin, smooth fabric. He exuded the masculinity of a grown man.
