Chapter 41
“Can I have the mansion in the northern suburbs?”
William stopped smoking for a split second. In the darkness of the night, his emotions were hard to notice. “Why do you want that mansion?”
“Because it’s worth a lot,” Scarlet said rationally. “I’ve never stayed in any of your other houses. I’ve only stayed here and in the one in the northern suburbs.”
William lowered his head and took a drag of his cigar. The smoke he blew out looked almost greenish–white amidst the cold night air. “If you want a valuable house, this one is worth much more than the one in the northern suburbs.”
Based on price alone, the mansion in Wolke Bay was worth more than three times the price of the one in the northern suburbs.
“This is the mansion your parents gave you as a wedding gift. You can use it in the future.”
“Do you really think I’ll use this house when I get remarried?”
That was true. Nicole probably didn’t want to stay in a house that Scarlet had used before.
“I still don’t want it,” Scarlet replied. “You guys can stay wherever you want. It’s none of my business. I just want the one in the northern suburbs.”
“What do you want it for?” William asked again.
“Can’t I sell it for the money?”
“If you want money, I can just give you cash.”
Scarlet was starting to get annoyed. William said she could ask for anything she wanted, but he was arguing against her simple request.
“If you don’t want to give it to me, then just say so.”
“It’s expensive to maintain that place. Can you afford it?” William looked up at her slowly. “Besides, I like that house. It’s a good place to spend the winter holidays. The scenery is great there.”
Was he planning to take Nicole there for the winter holidays next time?
Scarlet thought she had already been put through enough. No matter what she had done to him, she had already been punished enough.
She thought she would be able to peacefully accept their divorce, but she ended up getting hurt by William again. He was barely even trying.
It was already the beginning of winter. The cold weather was enough to make anyone shiver, but her eyes were warm with tears. Layer upon layer of tears formed in her eyes, and she had to do her best to hold them back.
She pressed her lips into a thin line and forced her voice to be steady, but she couldn’t stop the way it quivered at the end.
“You can go anywhere to see the snow. You could take her to Icemere if you wanted. The roads in the northern suburbs are badly managed. Every time it snows, the roads there get closed for a long time. It’s inconvenient.”
William scoffed. “Do you really think we got snowed in for a whole month back then?”
He has already finished smoking one cigar. He put it out in the pot next to the gate. “No matter how bad Lebavia’s city management is, they would never keep an important road closed for a whole month.”
Scarlet froze. A single round tear threatened to fall from her eye, clinging to her lower eyelashes.

“What did you say?”
William didn’t answer or look at her. He simply turned to open his car door.
“Tomorrow, I’ll get Chris to send you all the properties I have in my name. You can choose whichever you want, but forget about the one in the northern suburbs.”
He got back into the car, which turned and drove out of the driveway, Scarlet chased after it, wanting to ask what he meant.
When they were in the northern suburbs for a whole month, she had never once doubted what William told her.
He told her that their food was sent by drones from a nearby neighborhood since the roads weren’t open yet. He called Town Hall a bunch of good–for–nothing idiots who would probably only wall until the snow melted next year to fix the roads. He had also said that their situation wasn’t half bad and asked her if she wanted to live there for the rest of their lives.
