Chapter 35
Chapter 35

As expected of a party organized by Shaun, he made sure it was as extravagant as possible. Loud, bass-heavy music played from the speakers, and various types of drinks and alcohol covered every surface possible.
When the music started playing, everyone started moving their bodies. The gap that usually existed between people of different backgrounds seemed to disappear as the dancing started.
Everyone revolved around Nicole since she was the star of the party. She was perfectly at ease as she chatted with everyone who approached her and managed to keep conversations flowing easily. Occasionally, she would crack an appropriate joke.
She was the very picture of emotionally intelligent socialite excellence.
Justine had always complained about Scarlet’s introverted, shy nature. She probably liked girls like Nicole, who were friendly and outgoing, and who knew just what to say to people.
Lucy loved parties, so she lost herself in the crowd in no time. She had already forgotten her real purpose for joining the
party.
Scarlet didn’t know how to dance, so she found a quiet, secluded corner to hide in. The moment she sat down, she felt an intense gaze on her.
She turned to look at the other end of the L-shaped couch. There was a leg in a plaster cast propped up on the armrest, and the leg belonged to none other than Xyla, who was staring at Scarlet as if she’d caught her red-handed.
“You ignored me when I tried to ask you to hang out and said you wanted to rest at home, but you’re here at a party!”
Scarlet glanced at her. “Do the nurses know that you sneaked out?”
“Well…” Xyla immediately pouted, looking pitiful. “I wanted to hang out with you.”
Hanging out with Scarlet at Nicole’s party? What a creative excuse.
Scarlet smirked. “With that imagination, you should go be a director.”
Xyla fell silent.
Meanwhile, Nicole was chatting with some people not too far away. Someone asked, “I heard Shaun say you’re staying for good this time. Are you finally returning to your roots?”
“I have no choice. I’m sick of Amrivan food,” Nicole said. “Local food is much better.”
“I was wondering why Mr. Cooper suddenly came back, even though he was doing so well in Wellton Street. I bet he came back because of you.”
Scarlet froze momentarily when she heard that.
She had finally gotten an answer to the question that had been plaguing her for days. William had decided to come back because Nicole had returned, too.
He chased her all the way to Amriva, and now, he was back in the country because of her. “How loyal of him,” Scarlet thought to herself.
Nicole tucked her hair behind her ear. She had just come back from Amriva, where she must have experienced a whole new culture, but she still looked shy at the mention of a certain someone.
She looked outside. “Don’t say that. William isn’t a sentimental person.”
Scarlet followed her gaze.
Despite the cold autumn weather, the flowers in the garden were still flourishing. The tops of the rose bushes were covered

in bright roses.
William was standing next to a bush of pale pink roses with his left hand in his pocket and his phone in his right as he answered a call.
His days were incredibly packed, and he was constantly receiving calls left and right. However, he still found the time to attend Nicole’s party. It was obviously a sign of love.

Scarlet didn’t know if it was a coincidence or if William was just too perceptive, but he suddenly turned and looked at them.
“Wow! He’s looking at you!” the woman next to Nicole said with a gasp.
“You two must be telepathically connected. We were just talking about him, and he sensed it almost immediately!”
Nicole met his gaze through the glass. The love in her eyes was obvious to everyone watching. “Come on. Stop joking around.
Scarlet finally realized that this was what it felt like to be a bystander to someone else’s love.
She honestly felt like Nicole and William were a good match.
Not only were they both good-looking, but their backgrounds were also similar. Even though the Jameson family wasn’t as well off as the Coopers, they were still considered one of the richest families in Lebavia.
Scarlet still remembered seeing William and Nicole standing under a streetlamp one night. It happened when they were in their senior year, and Scarlet had just gotten back from school.
William was standing nonchalantly with his hands in his pockets, and Nicole had run up to envelop him in a hug. The warm orange glow from the streetlamp had bathed the young couple in its light.
Later on, Scarlet heard through the grapevine that William and Nicole were officially dating, and that their families were both very happy with their decision.
Even though Xyla was wholeheartedly on Nicole’s side, she was still rather fond of Scarlet. She glanced over at Scarlet, worried the overheard conversation would hurt her feelings.
“Honestly, you should just get a divorce from William.”
That was the first thing Lucy heard when she walked over to them.
While she wanted Scarlet to leave her suffering behind as soon as possible, Xyla’s words still made Lucy’s temper blow up.” Why should she get a divorce just so that that shameless couple can get what they want?”
“Don’t say such cruel things. William and Nicole were always a thing. If you look at it that way, Scarlet’s technically the intruder.”
“What do you know? Have you ever heard of the law? It doesn’t matter if they used to be a thing. Scarlet is William’s lawfully wedded wife now, which makes Nicole a mistress!”
Xyla exploded. “You’re the clueless one here!”
Lucy replied, “As if.”
