Natalie found Abigail’s words ridiculous, yet Jeffrey ate them all up.
Abigail was right. Why hadn’t Natalie stopped the fight sooner? It wasn’t until Stephen was at
a disadvantage that she stepped in to help.
“You siblings sure work together well!” Jeffrey gently swiped his thumb across the wound on his lip, his head bowed. In the next second, he raised his gaze, revealing the dark look in his eyes. “You almost had me fooled!”
Natalie opened her mouth to explain, yet the words died in her throat before she could speak
them as a sense of helplessness welled in her. It seemed like she was not only unloved but also
distrusted.
She had tried to grab Stephen the moment she saw him charging toward Jeffrey, yet she had failed. Besides, how was she supposed to step in when the two men were tangled together? She was just one woman! She certainly didn’t have the strength to separate two grown men herself.
That was not even considering the fact that she was pregnant. What if they accidentally hurt
her? She couldn’t take that risk!
Unexpectedly, this had become the perfect ammo for Abigail to use against her.
“Fine, I’m biased.” At this point, Natalie couldn’t be bothered to prove her innocence anymore. After all, it was completely pointless. Instead, she retorted, “Then let me ask you one thing as well, Abigail. Why didn’t you come forward to stop the fight? You were present
too!”
“When Stephen yanked Jeff away earlier, I fell as well…”
Abigail showed her palms, which were scraped and bleeding. Some dirt and dust were still clinging to the wounds.
In a choked voice, she went on, “I wanted to break up the fight too! It’s just that… I fell so hard just now that I couldn’t even stand for a moment. Even now, my hands are still numb.”
Her pitiful, frail act had Natalie itching to land several hard slaps across her cheeks. How was it possible that such a pretentious and shameless woman existed in this world?
In the ensuing silence, Stephen finally recovered from his near–death experience. Swiping a hand over his face, he stood up. “It seems I accidentally left you out earlier, Abigail. I should’ve gone after you first before beating up Jeffrey! The cheating bastard and the

A murderous look flashed in Jeffrey’s eyes as he tensed, ready to step forward.

After being married for five years, Natalie understood him well enough to know what he was planning to do. She immediately moved to stand protectively in front of Stephen.
“Don’t be afraid! Why are you scared of him? You wanna fight? Bring it on! Let’s see who emerges victorious!” Stephen yelled. The influence of alcohol had all the modicum of rationality flying out the window for him.
He went on, “You haven’t even divorced yet, but you’re already being affectionate with another woman in public! Don’t you know how to be a little more discreet? You’re dying to let the whole world know, huh? Listen up, Jeffrey Foster! I’m going to beat you up every time I see you! Even if you marry Abigail in the future, you’d better stay far away from Nat and me, got it?
“I used to think Nat was a fool, but now, I realize I was the fool all along! How could she possibly live a good, happy life with a man like you? Only by leaving you can she truly live a good life! Just you wait for regret to crush you!”
Jeffrey’s lips were pursed tightly. “Being affectionate with another woman?”
What was Stephen even going on about? Abigail said she wanted to have dinner together, so Jeffrey went to the hospital to pick her up after finishing his work at Foster Group. After that, they went to Lux Bistro.
After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant together. Abigail wanted to feed him some cake, but before he could accept a bite, his phone rang.
At first, Abigail had been quietly waiting for him to finish his call. However, she suddenly started leaning closer. Puzzled by her action, he had just been about to ask her when Stephen abruptly charged over.
