Divorced, Upgraded, and Married Rich Chapter 58

Divorced While Pregnant The Ex-Husband’s Collapse 58

Stephen picked up his cutlery again. “Looks like you’re not completely hopeless, after all. After this mess, your love–addled brain seems to have gotten a lot better.”

Natalie replied, “I got that sorted when I got divorced. Now, I’m all about work.”

He scoffed. “That little gallery of yours?”

She protested, “Steph, are you looking down on my gallery?”

He snorted. “It’s like playing house. How much profit can it really make? Still, it’s something you like, and it’s definitely better than sitting around doing nothing. Starting a business for fun isn’t bad.”

Natalie shot back, “As for you, you always aim high but never deliver. In all these years, what have you actually pulled off?”

Shrugging, he said, “Can you blame me?”

Natalie sighed. Maybe doing business really did take talent, and Stephen just didn’t have it.

Her phone suddenly rang, and she glanced at the screen to see that it was Johnson. She answered, “Hello, Johnson.”

Johnson asked, “Natalie, are you free right now?”

She replied, “I’m at home. What’s up?”

He said, “Mr. Wagner’s flight lands in Caspia City at 3:00 pm. I’ll come pick you up, and we’ll head to the airport together.”

Natalie responded immediately, “Okay!”

After ending the call, she hurried upstairs. She needed to tidy up and put on some light makeup. First impressions mattered, after all. She couldn’t look sloppy or careless.

Stephen called out, “What’s all the rush? Are you going on a date with Johnson? Why are you so excited?”

Natalie replied, “It’s for business.”

“Take it easy. Put some cream on your knees first. The medicine’s in the bottom drawer of the living room cabinet,” Stephen said.

When she didn’t respond, he shouted, “Did you get that?”

“Got it, Steph!” Natalie said.

By the time she came back downstairs, Johnson was already seated in the living room, chatting with Stephen.

Stephen said, “You’re putting in a lot of effort for my sister’s gallery. Not bad.”

Johnson smiled. “It’s nothing. I’m just doing her some small favors.”

Stephen waved it off. “Don’t be so modest. Honestly, I’ve always thought you were a true gentleman. You give people that warm, easygoing feeling. You’re not like Jeffrey at all, who acts so high and mighty. Even though he’s rich and capable, he’s never helped out Nat or the Bennett family, so what’s the point?

“And yet, Nat just had to like him. What a cursed relationship. Luckily, that curse is about to end soon. John, I’m very optimistic about you. Work harder and I’ll put in a good word for you in front of Nat. After all, you two were schoolmates and even worked together in the student council…”

As Natalie walked closer and heard the latter half of Stephen’s words, she immediately understood what was going on. She shot Stephen a glare. “Steph, you’re spouting nonsense again.”

Stephen raised his hands. “How is that nonsense? Don’t slander me. I’m just talking.”

Johnson maintained his gentle smile. “I was just chatting casually with Mr. Bennett.

Hearing that, Stephen corrected him, “Mr. Bennett? No, just call me Steph, like how Nat does. You’re going to have to change how you address me sooner or later anyway. Might as well get used to it now.”

Natalie reached over and pinched Stephen’s arm. Did he have a problem keeping quiet?

Stephen pulled away from her. “Hey, that hurts!”

She smiled sweetly, “Johnson, let’s go. We should get to the airport early to pick up Mr. Wagner.”

Johnson nodded. “Alright.”

Stephen called out behind them, “Why are you still calling him Johnson? That sounds so distant. Call him John or something; a nickname’s much more intimate. I’m sure he’d love that.”
