Divorced, Upgraded, and Married Rich Chapter 57

Divorced While Pregnant The Ex-Husband’s Collapse 57

Chapter 57

Natalie grabbed a bundle of dried sage and lit it, waving the smoke all over Stephen.

Stephen coughed and waved his hand in protest. “Alright, alright. That’s enough. I’m starving. Do we have anything to eat?”

Natalie said, “If Mom and Dad were here, they’d definitely make you change your clothes before letting you in.”

“At least I didn’t end up in prison,” Stephen said before walking toward the dining room.

A variety of dishes had already been set on the table.

Stephen sat down, picked up the cutlery, and started wolfing down the food. “Your cooking is amazing, Natalie. Whoever marries you will strike gold. Jeffrey was living in bliss without realizing it.

Natalie sat beside him and said, “Steph, I know you stood up for me this time, but I really hope you can be a bit more rational and stop stirring up trouble.”

His spoon froze in mid–air. Then, he forced himself to swallow what was in his mouth before he asked, “Nat, tell me the truth. How did you get me out?”

Stephen might be a hopeless mess, but he still knew how to care for his one and only sister.

Natalie averted her gaze. “Don’t ask. As long as you’re fine, that’s what matters.”

He pressed her, “How did Jeffrey bully you? And how did Abigail humiliate you?”

Natalie shook her head. “No, it was nothing like that. I just reasoned things out with them. properly and admitted fault-”

Before she could finish, Stephen jumped up and started checking her over. He rolled up her sleeves to look at her arms, then pulled open her collar to check her back. Then, he lifted her pant leg. When he saw the injuries on her knees, he understood everything and collapsed back

into his chair.

“Who made you kneel?” Stephen was furious.

He demanded, “Was it Jeffrey? Or Abigail? I’ll make sure they pay!”

Natalie pushed him down. “Steph, it’s over. It’s in the past, so just let it go and eat.”

But how could Stephen eat? “I’d rather go to jail and watch you suffer this kind of humiliation! I should take responsibility for what I did. How could I…‘

Natalie soothed him, saying, “It’s alright, Steph. I didn’t kneel for too long. Luckily, Chandler

arrived in time and put in a good word for me.‘

Stephen looked surprised. “Wait, Chandler?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

He was confused. “Are you close to him? I’ve never heard you mention it.”

Natalie replied, “Not really. We actually don’t interact much. I was surprised that he took my side too. And he even snapped back at Abigail without holding back.”

Stephen slapped his thigh. “He’s secretly in love with you!”

She started coughing as she choked on her own spit. What the hell? Could her brother’s imagination get any wilder?

Stephen spread his hands. “What else could it be? Men only do things for a few reasons. Why would Chandler risk offending Jeffrey just to help you?”

Natalie couldn’t figure it out either, but it wasn’t important. Maybe Chandler simply couldn’t stand it anymore and felt sorry for her. Or maybe he knew how much Caroline doted on her and wanted to help where he could.

She sighed, resting her chin on her hand. “What I’m worried about now is what I promised Jeffrey.”

Stephen immediately exploded again. “What did you promise him? How did he threaten you?”

Natalie replied, “I have to persuade Caroline to accept Abigail into the Foster family. Only then will he really let you go.”

“Damn it!” Stephen furiously slammed his cutlery down.

He shouted, “He really knows how to seize an opening and make demands! So if Abigail can’t marry in, I’ll have to go back into custody?”

Natalie snorted lightly. “How could that be? You’re already out, anyway. When the time

comes, just go abroad and lie low for a while. Is Jeffrey really going to chase you all the way overseas just to arrest you?”

The siblings exchanged a look and burst out laughing.
