Divorced, Upgraded, and Married Rich Chapter 47

Divorced While Pregnant The Ex-Husband’s Collapse 47

Chapter 47

Behind Abigail was Jeffrey, who looked impeccable in his crisp suit, tailored slacks, and polished leather shoes.

No matter when or where he appeared, this man was always immaculate. He never allowed a single wrinkle. An air of nobility clung to him.

The Foster family had been a noble powerhouse for generations, and he was at the helm of this generation. The power he held was enough for him to look down on anyone.

“What’s going on?” Stephen had sobered up considerably by now, regaining a bit of his reason. “Why did Jeffrey come here with Abigail?”

Natalie answered, “They were already together.”

Stephen’s eyes widened. “What did you say?”

Natalie answered, “They were sleeping together. Do you understand now?”

After dumping Natalie out of the car, Jeffrey had undoubtedly taken Abigail back to Foster Garden. If not for Felix’s phone call, the two of them would probably have been curled up in each other’s arms, fast asleep.

Natalie suddenly sneezed. When she rubbed her nose and looked up, Jeffrey was watching her with an unreadable expression. And then Natalie saw it-on his neck was an unmistakable hickey. It was a reddish purple mark, irregular in shape, stamped just above his shirt’s collar.

Her heart jerked painfully for a split second. It was an unprovoked ache. She didn’t even know why it hurt.

Since she decided to divorce him, she’d told herself the same thing countless times—she needed to turn around, not look back, and not love him anymore.

Jeffrey’s repeated acts of harm and indifference had only strengthened that resolve. She would never return to him.

So, Natalie had to ask herself why it still hurt.

She turned her head and looked out the window, noting how dark it was outside. People were more fragile at night, especially after dealing with this kind of mess.

No one was there to help her. All she had was herself. She was isolated and alone, like a lone island in the vast sea.

Natalie blinked, controlling the emotions surging inside her and forcing herself to calm down.

Felix was in the middle of his complaint.

“I was drinking and chatting with a group of friends when Stephen smashed a bottle over my head out of nowhere. I started bleeding immediately. And that wasn’t the end of it. He pinned me to the ground and punched me over and over again. Look at my face-it’s still swollen.

“And his sister was even worse. She came in without the slightest intention of resolving things properly. Does she think the Bennett family stands above us?

“Ab, I might be the one who got beaten, but there’s no way they didn’t think of you. What they’re really doing is provoking and challenging you. If I back down tonight, the Bennett family will walk all over the Wright family from now on.”

Felix fanned the flames, exaggerating every detail.

Stephen couldn’t stand listening to it and tried to argue, but Natalie pressed him back into his seat.

She shook her head. “Steph, I’m begging you. Leave this to me. Don’t let it blow up any further.”

Stephen protested, “But…”

Natalie said firmly, “No buts.”

Abigail gazed at the wound on Felix’s head with distress in her eyes. She turned to Jeffrey. “This is just too cruel, Jeff.”

She bit her lip and clutched Jeffrey’s sleeve. “Felix grew up with me. He’s always looked after me and been good to me. He’s a kind, humble person. When I was overseas all those years, he’d send me things, check up on me, and keep my parents company. To me, he’s like a real brother.

“Now, he’s suffered such a huge injustice, and the other party is…”

She didn’t finish the sentence, but everyone present understood her perfectly.

After a long silence, Abigail spoke again, her voice trembling with tears. “Jeff, you have to stand up for us.”

Jeffrey asked calmly, “Stand up how?”

Abigail froze. What did he mean by that? Was he going to protect Stephen?

The next second, Jeffrey added, “Just lock him up.”
