Natalie liked the color of the dress, for it reminded her of roses. As for the size, the measurements were a perfect fit for her. It was a fitted dress, and the design was more suited to younger people. It didn’t look like the sort of clothing Matilda would usually wear at all.
Why would Lucian buy a dress like that for his mother? Natalie wondered.
No wonder Matilda couldn’t wear it. She probably asked Lucian to return it too.
After exiting the bathroom, Natalie could hear the hum of a hair dryer in the room.
Lucian was sitting by the bed, drying Sarah’s hair. Sarah was a lively girl, and she was laughing and playing with him.
“Come on, stop moving. I’ll be done in a bit,” Lucian said.
“Luc, do you even know how to dry hair? My hair is all messed up now.” Sarah shook her head. Her long black hair stuck out in every direction.
“Let me do it.” Natalie walked over to Lucian and held out her hand.
Turning off the hair dryer, Lucian looked up and stared at Natalie.
She had put on the pink dress. The design wasn’t revealing at all, but the fitted size perfectly accentuated her curvy figure.
Natalie had been a housewife for seven years, and her usual outfit consisted of loungewear with an apron on top. Even if she went out, she would just wear a T-shirt and jeans paired with sneakers.
The only time she wore dresses was during certain events held by the Payne family, where it was compulsory for her to attend. Only then would she take some effort into dressing up.
Fortunately, she had exquisite features, and her skin was quite clear. Even if she didn’t put on makeup, she still had that natural beauty about her.
“Is… Is there something on my face?” Natalie felt Lucian’s gaze on her, and she couldn’t help but feel somewhat awkward about it.
“Here.” Lucian handed the hair dryer to Natalie. Then, he lifted Sarah off the bed and grabbed a hair tie from the bedside cabinet. He proceeded to clumsily tie up Sarah’s hair.
Natalie couldn’t help chuckling when she saw the messy ponytail.
“Mommy, why are you laughing?” Sarah couldn’t see what she looked like, but she could sense that her mother was laughing
at her hair.
“No, it’s nothing.” Covering her mouth, Natalie shook her head. “Lucian, I’ll take over.”
“Uh… Sure.” Lucian couldn’t even bear to look at what he had done. He picked Sarah up and placed her right in front of Natalie.
He felt that taking care of children was tough work, and that it was even trickier than working overtime or holding meetings.
Some time later, Natalie held Sarah’s hand as the two walked out of the guest room. In her other hand, she carried a large bag filled with their wet clothes.
“Lucian, it’s getting late. Sarah and I have to get going,” Natalie said to Lucian, who was in the corridor. “I’ll return the dress after getting it dry-cleaned tomorrow.”
“It’s okay. My mom cut the tag, so I can’t return it anymore. No one at home can wear it either, so feel free to keep it if you’d like. If it’s not to your liking, you can just trash it.” Lucian was carrying the white puppy in his arms, and he gently caressed its fur as he spoke.

He continued, “It’s cold outside, and I think a storm is coming up. If you and Sarah leave like this, you’ll get wet again as soon as you step into the yard. Why don’t you wait until the rain dies down?”
Sarah broke free of Natalie’s hold and ran up to Lucian before patting the puppy on the head.
“Can I hold it?” Sarah asked in a sweet voice.
“It’s yours in the first place. Go ahead,” Lucian replied.
Natalie wanted Sarah to get going, but she knew that her daughter loved animals, so she was sure that Sarah wouldn’t listen to her.
“Since I’ve helped you two out, don’t you think you should thank me?” Lucian asked, staring straight at Natalie.
