But right after Natalie posed the question, she realized that the people Scarlet hired to trash the place must have accidentally damaged the wall as well.
“It’s probably the heavy rain. It has been a long time since the wall was last maintained, so the rain must have ruined it,” Lucian replied.
The puppy was barking on the second floor of the villa. With Sarah still in his arms, Lucian went upstairs straight away.
“Mommy is still downstairs.” Sarah leaned on Lucian’s shoulder as she looked at Natalie, who was standing at the entrance of the living room.
“Come on upstairs. You don’t have to change your shoes,” Lucian said to Natalie. Then, he added, “I’m not a germophobe.”
The white floor was marked with Lucian’s shoe prints.
Natalie was well aware that Lucian wasn’t a germophobe. Whenever she took Sarah to the Payne residence, Sarah would play in the yard and jump straight into Lucian’s arms. Lucian had never bothered about Sarah’s dirty hands.
If it were Rowan, he would’ve flown into a rage and shouted at Natalie for not taking proper care of her children. He felt that
she should’ve taught the children to keep themselves clean at all times.
Kids were meant to play, so Natalie didn’t want to ruin their childhood with those rules. She could clean them up when they got dirty, anyway. She didn’t mind it that much.
Lucian had said he wasn’t a germophobe, but Natalie still went to the shoe cabinet near the entrance and got herself a pair of disposable slippers. She only went upstairs after putting on the slippers.
“Luc, do you not have maids in your house? Do you live here alone?” Sarah slid out of Lucian’s arms as she observed his
house with wide, curious eyes.
“I usually live in the Payne residence, so I rarely come over. The maids only come over at certain hours to tidy up. They all go back to their own homes afterward,” Lucian explained as he followed behind Sarah.
“Puppy… Come out!” Sarah spotted the white puppy hiding behind a flowerpot.
The puppy barked at Sarah before shrinking back into the corner.
“Luc, can you get it to come out? I think it’s scared of me.” Sarah looked to Lucian for help.
Bending over, Lucian held Sarah’s cold hands and said, “I think it doesn’t like you because you’re all wet. Why don’t you take a shower and change into some clean clothes before playing with it?”
“But we’re-” Before Sarah could finish her sentence, she sneezed. She was about to say that they were leaving soon.
“You’re both wet from head to toe. Sarah should take a shower so she doesn’t catch a cold, right?” Lucian asked Natalie, who had just gone up the stairs.
But before Natalie could say anything, he took Sarah’s hand and led her to a guest room ahead of them.
“Here, take these.” Lucian retrieved a bag from the closet. There were brand-new children’s clothes inside. “My mom asked me to buy these for Sarah and Roger as presents for Christmas. It’s not Christmas yet, so the presents are still here.
“Natalie, try on this dress. I originally bought it for my mom, but after trying it on, she said it’s too small for her. If it fits, you can change out of your wet clothes later.”
Natalie had no choice but to accept the clothes for Sarah, along with the pink winter dress in an adult size.
“I guess Sarah can change her clothes, but my clothes aren’t that wet…” Natalie had just finished speaking when a droplet of water traveled along the sleeve of her orange down jacket and dripped onto the floor.

It was raining heavily outside, and she had been holding a tiny umbrella in an attempt to shield both her and Sarah from the rain. It would be a miracle if her clothes didn’t get soaked.
“Mommy, please change your clothes. You’ll get sick if you don’t,” Sarah said in her childish voice.
All of Natalie’s and Sarah’s belongings were in Rowan’s villa. Now that she was divorced, Natalie believed that it was time for a fresh start. She definitely wouldn’t go back for their belongings, so at the moment, she indeed had no other clothes to change into.
Natalie gave Sarah a warm bath and helped her put on the clean new clothes. Then, she finally allowed Sarah to play with the
puppy.
The sweater Natalie was wearing inside was completely soaked, so she couldn’t wear it anymore. She had no choice but to try on the dress Lucian had given her.
