Chapter 33
“Let go of me!” Sarah cried and hit Scarlet. In her panic, she bit down hard on Scarlet’s arm.
Scarlet cried out in pain and shoved Sarah to the ground. “You useless brat! You’re just like your mother, there’s not a single good thing about you…”
“Sarah!” Natalie ran over and scooped her up from the ground. She held her daughter tightly, her heart aching. “Are you
hurt? Let me take a look.”
“I’m okay.” Sarah nodded, then burst into tears. “Mommy, don’t leave me. I want to be with you… It doesn’t hurt. I just want Mommy…”
“That’s my good girl,” Natalie said. “I’m sorry, Sally. From now on, I’ll never leave you again. We’ll always be together.”
“Ms. Chapman!” Roger called out. He ran straight toward Imogen with his schoolbag bouncing on his back.
“Look what I brought you,” Imogen said, taking a cake out of the car.
“My favorite chocolate cake! Thank you, Ms. Chapman. I love you the most!”
Natalie held Sarah’s hand and turned to look at them. She hesitated, wanting to remind Roger that he couldn’t eat overly sweet things, or he would definitely get a toothache.
“You’re so much better than some people who are always nagging me about what I can’t eat or touch,” Roger said pointedly, sneaking a glance at Natalie.
“I’ve got good news for you. Natalie and your dad are divorcing. From now on, you won’t have to be wary of her anymore. I can move into your house tonight. Are you happy?” Imogen deliberately raised her voice, asking Roger in front of Natalie.
“That’s great! I don’t have to see that annoying woman anymore!” Roger jumped up and down with excitement.
Natalie led Sarah over to Rowan and took the custody documents out of her bag, handing them to him to sign.
“I only want custody of Sarah. I don’t want Roger,” Natalie said coldly.
Before this, she had wanted both Roger and Sarah to live with her. After all, Roger was still her own flesh and blood, and she had tried her best to love them both equally.
But at this moment, there was no need anymore. She would just treat it as though she had only ever given birth to Sarah. Rowan scoffed. “Natalie, after scheming against me like this today, do you really think I’ll let you have your way-”
Before he could finish, Scarlet signed it on his behalf, and Imogen grabbed his thumb, dipped it in ink, and pressed it onto
the document.
“Mom, what are you doing?” Rowan shouted.
“Rowan, Natalie is a despicable woman. You should cut her off as soon as possible. Since she wants custody of Sarah, just give it to her.” Scarlet tossed the custody papers back to Natalie.
“This divorce is my personal matter. Why do you always interfere? You-” Rowan stopped mid-sentence.
He thought to himself that, now that he was divorced from Natalie, who would pick Roger up from school and drop him off? Who would help him with his homework? More importantly, who would handle the household cleaning and take care of his clothes?
He had never once found Pamela’s housework satisfactory, and naturally didn’t want her washing his clothes.
Imogen was the treasured heiress of the Chapman family. She had never done dirty or tiring work like this. If she were really made to do it herself, she certainly wouldn’t do well either.
