Chapter 29

“I’m not that hungry,” Natalie said quietly. “I had half of the bun earlier.”

She hesitated before asking, “Anyway, will Rowan be busy this Wednesday?”

Lucian glanced at her while eating and asked, “Didn’t he tell you? There will be an important contract signing ceremony. Some of the directors from Payne Group’s headquarters will be attending, too.”

“You’ll be going too, right?” Natalie wanted to ask about where it would be held, but she didn’t dare to be so direct.

“Payne Holdings isn’t under my care,” he replied. “Rowan will take care of it on his own.”

Seeing Natalie had only been eating the vegetables from the pan-seared pork belly, Lucian pushed the dish toward her. “I have something else on that day, so I won’t be going to the Imperial Hotel.”

Natalie had been racking her brain for ways to ask Lucian about the location, but to her surprise, he gave her the answer at

the end.

“You must be starving from working the whole morning. Please have more.” Natalie’s mood lifted instantly, and she served Lucian some food with her own fork without realizing it.

Lucian glanced at the serving spoon in the corner and smiled. Among the Payne family, Natalie was known for being scrupulous about etiquette.

Apart from her husband, she would never serve food to another man. In fact, she would never say more than a few words to Lucian or Rowan’s father, Logan Payne, at the dining table.

On Wednesday morning, Natalie arrived early at the Imperial Hotel with Jasper. When it was close to 9:00 am, many well- dressed men and women walked into the lobby.

Right in front of the group was Rowan. Imogen walked beside him, dressed in a white suit.

“Rowan!” Natalie hurried over.

The moment Rowan heard Natalie, he shot a look at the bodyguards beside him. Immediately, they rushed forward and attempted to force Natalie out of the hotel.

“Rowan, let’s talk about the divorce. I brought my lawyer with me today. Please give me custody of our children,” cried Natalie. She was so loud that everyone in the lobby heard her.

The businessman who was planning on collaborating with Rowan looked at him sternly after hearing her words. “Mr. Payne, are you getting a divorce from your wife?”

“Please give me a minute, Mr. Morris. I’ll take care of this real quick.” Rowan was worried Natalie would ruin his business deal, so he had no choice but to deal with her.

“Mr. Morris, why don’t we head upstairs with everyone and have something to drink first?” Imogen cut in smoothly. “I can explain the details of the collaboration to you.”

She was ready to back Rowan up, determined not to let Natalie ruin the contract signing ceremony that day.

“Rowan, I’ve already agreed to divorce you! Why are you still trying to take the children from me? Don’t you know they’re my life? They can’t live without a mother! I’m begging you, please return them to me!” Natalie shouted, pushing the bodyguards away.

John Morris’ expression darkened when he heard Natalle’s words.

Before coming to the hotel, Natalle had done her homework.

John was known for doting on his wife. However, despite many years of marriage, they had never been able to conceive naturally. It wasn’t until two years ago that they finally got a pair of twins, a girl and a boy, through IVF.

Hence, he began investing in children’s clothing brands. After each profitable venture, he would donate five percent of the profits to children’s welfare homes.

Men who failed to fulfill their duties to their families were the people John hated the most. Now that he realized Rowan’s family was far from the loving picture described in rumors, he would definitely hesitate to proceed with the collaboration

with Rowan.

Rowan ordered the bodyguards to forcefully take Natalie and Jasper to a lounge upstairs. Pointing at Natalie, Rowan said threateningly, “If you need to talk, do it tomorrow.”

“Mr. Payne, my client has already submitted a divorce petition to the court some time ago,” Jasper said, pulling out his work ID along with the court summons.

He continued, “Today is the day on which the court issues a compulsory summons. Please respect the law and resolve this matter with my client as soon as possible.”

However, Rowan knew nothing about the summons because Imogen had sent someone to intercept it. He turned to look at

her.
