Chapter 27

Carmen dialed a number and put it on speaker so Natalie could hear the other person too.

“Carmen, I was just about to call you,” her friend said. “I’ve gotten the list and emailed it to you. As for the details, I’ve taken some pictures and sent them to your email too.”

“Didn’t you say only managers at your mall are allowed to access purchase records that go back more than a month?” asked Carmen curiously.

She had urged her friend repeatedly to help get the purchase records as soon as possible, but there was no news for a long

time.

“My manager fell sick yesterday. Coincidentally, my supervisor’s wife went into labor. I was asked to take care of the performance reports, so he gave me the password to the back-end system.

“That was how I managed to find what you were looking for. You two are really lucky. I never would’ve gotten it if this didn’t happen.”

“Thank you so much. I’ll treat you to a grand meal when you’re back in the country.”

After hanging up, Carmen checked her email. Her friend had sent an attachment with several photos of purchase records. Some were from a year ago, while the latest was from a week ago.

Natalie did a quick calculation. With the hotel expenses from Rowan’s and Imogen’s business trips, the total came to at least 500 million.

“Natalie, with all this evidence, you can definitely make Rowan compensate you.” Carmen held Natalie’s hand, looking rather

excited.

Natalie shook her head. “That’s not enough. Rowan’s the kind of person who holds grudges and retaliates over everything. He might be able to give me money, but that might not be the case for Sarah. I’m not confident enough that he’ll give me Sarah’s custody.”

She wouldn’t allow herself to relax as long as she didn’t have custody of Sarah.

“Then, what should we do now?” Carmen had never been married. There wasn’t much she could do to help Natalie when it came to matters like these.

However, Carmen could let Natalie stay comfortably at her place for the time being. The apartment she bought was a two- bedroom unit, and Natalie didn’t have to pay rent. And as long as there was food, Natalie would never go hungry.

Later that day, Natalie met up with Jasper and handed him all the evidence for review. He felt about 80% confident that they could win, so he decided to file a lawsuit against Rowan.

When it was close to noon, Natalie walked past a bakery and bought two buns and a carton of milk. She sat on a bench outside and made a quiet meal out of the food she had bought.

Suddenly, a slender shadow cast over her, making her look up instinctively. The moment she realized who it was, she choked on her food and started coughing.

“Are you all right?” Lucian patted her back and handed her a handkerchief.

Milk had splashed across her face. Thinking she looked extremely disheveled, she took the handkerchief and roughly wiped her face. “Why are you here, Lucian?”

Lucian pointed at the office building beside them, saying, “My business meeting just ended. I saw you the moment I got out.” “Oh. What a coincidence,” Natalie commented. She couldn’t remember the last time she had buns as her main meal. And of all days, a family member happened to see her eating it outside. The timing couldn’t be worse. “Why are you only having this for lunch?” Lucian stared at the half-eaten bun in her hands.
