Craving the Guardian Novel Chapter 137

Nights Burn With Regret — by Nathan Perez 137

Chapter 137

Violet

M J

All my life, I fooled myself into believing that avoiding conflict was the safest path. That staying quiet and swallowing humiliation would protect me. But all it did was turn me into an easy target. My silence didn’t just fail to protect me, it nearly cost my brother his life. And that is something I will never forgive myself for

I will have my revenge.

When I said I would get my revenge, people assumed I would go all out immediately, they thought I would destroy them, ruin their families, and burn their reputations to dust in one strike. With Hades’ power behind me, I could. I could crush them all without lifting a finger and reclaim everything that belonged to me and Sebastian.

But no. That would be too easy. I wasn’t going to drag them straight to hell. Instead, I would stand at the edge and watch them walk into the fire themselves, one step at a time, never realizing that I was the one who loosened every stone beneath their feet.

“Next time, move out of my way.”

The cafeteria went dead silent after I lifted the bowl and poured the steaming soup on Nora. Everyone stared at me as if I had finally lost my mind. Their eyes were wide, mouths open, and frozen in shock as if they couldn’t process what they had just witnessed. Because the girl who always avoided drama, the girl who used to keep her head down, just walked up to Nora and poured an entire bowl of soup on her without flinching.

And to make it worse, the words that came out of my mouth afterward were absurd, and shameless, as if Nora was somehow at fault for getting soup dumped on her while she was just sitting there, but her reaction was priceless.

She trembled where she stood, dripping soup from her hair to her shoes. She looked genuinely stunned that someone had done to her what she just did.

Funny how that works.

When she saw the smirk curling on my lips, she snapped.

“Violet! You crazy bitch!” she finally screamed, voice cracking. “Do you have a death wish?! Why would you pour a bowl of soup on me?!”

I shrugged. “Like I said, it’s your fault, you were in my way. I wouldn’t have spilled the soup if you’d just stayed put.”

Nora’s face twisted, going even redder “I was in your way?! Are you fucking kidding me?! I was just sitting! You poured it on me on purpose!” She shrieked, rubbing her eyes in pain. “It’s so spicy, ah-my eyes!”

I raised my eyebrow as if genuinely confused, my tone light and unbothered. “On purpose? You’re being dramatic. Why would I do something like that?” I gestured lazily. “It was clearly an accident.”

“Cut the bullshit! It’s because I did-”

She stopped instantly, realizing she was about to confess she splashed water on me.

“It doesn’t matter why! What matters is that you poured soup on me! I won’t let this go, Violet! I’ll take this to the cops. I’ll press charges. This is assault! Do you hear me?! ASSAULT!”

“Why would you press charges, Nora? You’re saying I assaulted you, when everything was just an accident.”

“You-” She was fuming, and the calmer I acted, the redder her face became. I dragged it out intentionally, watching her unravel.

It was entertaining.”

“When you splashed water on me,” I continued, “I chose to see it as an accident. Why can’t you extend the same courtesy?”

Her jaw dropped. She looked like she wanted to rip her own hair out.

“And besides,” I added, tilting my head, “you’re the only one claiming I did anything on purpose. It’s not like anyone saw me do it intentionally.” My eyes drifted over the cafeteria. “Or did anyone see anything?”

Behind me, Penelope’s lips curled into a wicked little smile. She folded her arms, leaning forward. “Of course not. Nobody saw anything. You were just passing by, and the soup accidentally spilled on her. Right?” Her tone was playful, but the warning beneath it made people flinch. “Or… did anyone see anything?”

A boy two tables away opened his mouth. “I-”

Before he could finish, Kai moved. He didn’t even need to speak. He simply walked over to the boy’s table, stood there with that cold, bored expression, and raised an eyebrow. “Did you see something?”

The boy instantly snapped his mouth shut and sank into his seat like he wanted the floor to swallow him. “I-I didn’t see anything,”

“What?” She spun around, looking at the crowd. “What?! Are you all serious right now?!”

She searched the cafeteria like she expected someone to be brave enough to help her. But all she found were people avoiding her gaze, pretending to eat, staring at their shoes, or quietly muttering to themselves. The entire room had collectively decided they wanted nothing to do with this fight.

“Why are you all keeping quiet?!” Nora screeched, sounding more like a spoiled child than the elegant girl she pretended to be. “Say something! You all saw what she did! Don’t tell me you’re afraid of her, there’s nothing she can do! Just say something!”

A girl near the window whispered under her breath, “There is no way I’m offending the psycho couple. I’m not dying today. And besides, she started it first, so she should deal with it.”

“Ahhh!!! You’re all crazy!” Nora shouted. “You don’t have any backbone! You’re all fucking useless!”

She turned to the only person she thought she still had.

Riley

She sat frozen in her seat, shoulders stiff, hands shaking so slightly most people wouldn’t notice. But I noticed. She couldn’t even meet my eyes. The girl who once would’ve laughed, mocked, and thrown fuel on the fire was now praying she could disappear.

Nora grabbed at her arm desperately. “Riley! Even if they’re all pretending nothing happened, you are still a witness.” She pointed at me with a shaky finger. “Come on, Riley, tell her what you saw! Tell her she did it on purpose!”

“This time, no one will be able to save her. Do you really think you can pull something like this and I’ll just let it slide, Violet? Not everyone is afraid of you and your little friends, right Riley?”
