You Thought Cilantro Was Just a Flavor? It’s Actually My FU, Cheater! by Mark Twain 3

Chapter 3
Edward was still reaching to put food on my plate when I said it.
His hand froze mid-air.
My parents went dead silent.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
Dad’s fork hit the table hard.
“You two have a fight and suddenly it’s divorce? That’s not how this works!”
Mom grabbed my hand, voice shaking.
“Whitney, honey, please. Don’t do this. Every couple fights-you know that. You just talk it out and move on. Don’t say things you can’t take
back.”
I pulled my hand free and stood up.
“I’m not saying it out of anger. I’ve been thinking about this for over a month. I want a divorce, and I mean it.”
Edward set down his fork with this bitter little smile.
“So this really is all about the cilantro.”
He rubbed his face like I was exhausting him.
“Whitney, I apologized. I don’t understand why you’re blowing something this small completely out of proportion.”
I let out a harsh laugh. “Edward, are you really this stupid? Or are you just acting?
“You keep bringing up the damn cilantro like that’s what this is about. But you won’t say ONE WORD about Ruby. That’s because you know you’re guilty, isn’t it?
You know exactly what’s been going on between you two. You’ve been eating up her attention, letting her throw herself at you, and then you turn around and make ME look crazy. Standing here playing the perfect husband while I’m the hysterical wife who can’t let things go.”
I locked eyes with him. “How are you this DISGUSTING?”
Mom had picked up on enough. Her voice was quiet.
“Who’s Ruby?”
I pulled out my phone, opened the screenshots, and set it in front of them-every single post Ruby had made, all the ones she’d hidden from everyone but me.
Mom’s face drained of color as she scrolled.
Edward’s mask finally cracked. His jaw tightened,
He stood, breathing hard.
“Fine. You want the truth? Ruby’s been inappropriate-I’ll give you that. And yeah, maybe she has feelings for me. But I have NEVER felt

anything for her. I’ve never crossed that line.”
I stared at him.
“So you KNEW she had feelings for you. But you kept her as your assistant anyway. Took her to Paris for a month. Spent every day with her. Gave her a key to OUR house.”
His voice went sharp.
“What am I supposed to do-fire someone because they like me? I can’t control how she feels! I didn’t DO anything!”
“You let her think she had a chance! THAT’S what you did!”
Dad, who’d been silent this whole time, stood up.
His voice was quiet but final. “Edward. Go home.”
After Edward left, we sat there in silence. The food had gone cold.
Finally, I broke it.
“I came here to tell you both about this. I had no idea he’d be here.”
I looked at them.
“I’ve thought about this every day for weeks. I can’t do it anymore.
Seven years married, and he doesn’t remember I’m allergic to cilantro-but he remembers what SHE likes.
He lets her post about him like they’re together. He gave her access to our home.
I’m not staying in this.”
