Broken Heart Chapter 6

The Blackened Odds by Mark Twain 6

Chapter 6

Julian didn’t move. He just watched me climb into Adrian’s car. The car pulled away, leaving him standing

there.

He’d never felt so out of control. Like he’d been gripping a string too hard, and it snapped.

When he got back to the empty villa, panic hit him for the first time. He’d always had me whenever he wanted. Always seen worship in my eyes. He never thought I’d actually walk away.

“She’s throwing a fit. She’ll get over it.”

Julian lit a cigarette, hands shaking, and muttered under his breath. He pulled out his phone and opened our

thread.

[Stop this childish game.]

[I’ll give you three days to come home. Don’t make me come get you.]

He sent it. Nothing came back.

Three days later, the men he’d sent to watch me came back with photos. I was with Adrian everywhere they

checked. They said I was getting ready for a solo recital.

In the photos, I was smiling. Calm. Serene. It made something twist in his chest.

He started blowing up my phone. Calls went straight to voicemail. His texts turned green, delivered but

ignored. I’d blocked him. He snapped.

He trashed his study, smashing anything he could get his hands on. He couldn’t understand how I’d become

someone he didn’t recognize, in a few months.

He ordered his team to dig into my life and Adrian’s background. He needed to know what the hell had

happened after I walked out.

Watching Julian unravel over me made Vivian see red. She couldn’t let him find out what had really

happened.

She moved fast, before his investigators could turn up the truth, fabricating a new reality herself.

She tracked down an estranged cousin of mine and bribed him. Then she hired a specialist to manufacture a fake digital paper trail.

The messages laid out how I’d planned it from the start, getting close to Julian on purpose.

Using his feelings to drain his family dry. There was even a plan for how I’d faked Mom’s death to wring him for sympathy and cash.

Vivian put it all together carefully. She knew Julian never trusted anyone easily, and he hated liars more than anything, especially when it involved money, or the rare moments he actually let his guard down.

She wanted him to give up on me. Better yet, she wanted him to hate me so much he’d never let it go.

That night, Julian came home drunk. Vivian handed him the folder. She started crying, making her voice shake, like she was the one who’d been hurt.

“Julian, I knew this wasn’t my place.”

“But I couldn’t just stand by and watch her keep using you like this.”

Julian opened the folder and went through it. With every page, his face drained of color, replaced by a cold, hard rage.

Chat logs. Bank transfers. Everything laid out in black and white. I’d been playing him from day one. Every word I’d said about loving him was just to get his money.

He slammed the folder down so hard the table shook. Veins bulged in his temples. “You played me for a fool, Lily.”

His jaw clenched, hatred burning in his eyes. He grabbed his keys and stormed out.

Vivian watched him leave, a smile spreading. She pulled out her phone and made a call. Her voice was slick

with venom.

[Leak it. Tell them Lily, the so-called plano prodigy, faked her own mother’s death for a payday. I want her destroyed.]
