BOUND TO HIM NOVEL Chapter 7

Broken Yet Untouched by Mark Twain 7

Chapter 7

Nathaniel was about to hang up impatiently, but hearing Vivienne’s name made him pause.

“Vivi? Do you have news about Vivi?”

It turned out that shortly after they returned from the clinic, Estelle had printed several copies of the divorce agreement and filed them with the relevant institutions, finalizing the dissolution of Nathaniel and Vivienne’s marriage.

Although the company Nathaniel inherited had nearly collapsed under his management after his parents’ death-he had almost been forced into bankruptcy and delinquency due to unpaid wages-it was Vivienne who stepped in and revived it.

Although Nathaniel had basically regained control of the company in recent years, some long-standing board members clung to traditional beliefs.

They felt leadership was a man’s duty, even if he was ill-suited for it, and that women should focus on domestic life.

However, when they tried to use the divorce to push Vivienne off the board, they discovered it was Nathaniel who had been removed.

According to the divorce agreement he had signed, as the at-fault party, his remaining 5% shareholding had been transferred to Vivienne.

Several of the resistant old-guard members had also been removed by Vivienne.

Furious, they called Nathaniel.

As soon as the board member finished explaining, Nathaniel hung up.

A sudden lightness filled him. He began changing his clothes, shaving off the stubble shadowing his jaw.

“Vivi doesn’t like a sloppy man…

“She likes me in a white shirt…

“Cologne… She always preferred that sandalwood one…”

Nathaniel was elated.

It was only after believing the divorce was final that he understood how much he’d needed her.

After his parents died, his life had felt rootless until he married her. She had become his anchor.

He didn’t want to lose her.

Over the eight years, her presence had gradually filled the void inside him.

It had, quietly, allowed him to start making choices again.

But the warmth was a safe harbor he never wanted to leave.

And he had been too greedy, unable to let go of represented

Only now, after seven days without Vivienne, did he truly understand that he could lose everything-except Vivienne.

Once he was ready, Nathaniel used his credit line to order a bouquet and hailed a cab to the company headquarters.

With each block closer, his heartbeat quickened.

Vivienne’s POV

After concluding the shareholders’ meeting and finally silencing all dissent within the company, I slumped into my office chair, needing a moment to unwind.

The image of my daughter, small and lifeless on the hospital bed, haunted me, refusing to fade.

I couldn’t afford to stop.

I was afraid that if I paused, I might collapse before making those responsible pay.

Then, a pair of warm hands gently pressed against my temples.

The scent of sandalwood filled the air around me.

My tension began to ease.

I heard Claud’s voice. “Ms. Sherman, you don’t always have to be so

strong.”

I asked instead, “The eldest son of the Duncan family, playing the role of my assistant for five years… That story about wanting to distance yourself from your family to prove yourself is getting old. No one will believe it after half a decade.”

His hands stilled for a moment. He let out a bitter laugh and knelt beside my chair.
