BOUND TO HIM NOVEL Chapter 6

Broken Yet Untouched by Mark Twain 6

Chapter 6

Third person’s POV

Nathaniel grew more restless with each passing day at the estate. On the seventh day of Vivienne’s absence, he smashed the bowl Estelle handed him.

Irritably, he snapped, “Don’t you know people with stomach issues can’t have pumpkin bisque? Vivi would never be so careless.”

A cramping pain spread from his stomach, making it hard to breathe.

He used to lock himself in his studio for days, sometimes drinking heavily to chase inspiration.

It was Vivienne who, day after day, would prepare hangover remedies and have a soothing broth ready before he drank himself into pain.

In these days without her, Nathaniel found life had lost all its color.

some time.”

Nathaniel answered almost reflexively “Take those matters to my wife. Why are you coming to me?”

But the words hung in the air, and he stood frozen, the reality dawning on him.

He then wandered, desolate, toward their bedroom.

It was the longest he had ever been without Vivienne.

From the living room, Estelle watched him walk to his bedroom and stamped her foot in fury in the living room.

“Vivienne. Vivienne again! Can’t she just stay gone, even now?”

Seething, Estelle collapsed onto the sofa and buried her face in her hands, weeping.

“Why does she get to have everything”

Years ago, it was she who had found Nathaniel at his lowest, suicidal from his psychological torment.

It was she who had tried tirelessly to help him overcome his crippling indecision.

But after three years together, his condition had nearly driven her mad.

She couldn’t take it, want to waste her life on him.

We didn’t

She left Nathaniel and attached herself to a wealthy man willing to buy her a mansion.

She hadn’t known she was already pregnant with Nathaniel’s child.

When the man’s wife confronted her, thinking of the company Nathaniel’s parents had left him, Estelle secretly had the baby.

Not long after, Patrick was diagnosed with leukemia.

She had no choice but to come back to Nathaniel with Patrick again, only to discover he was already married.

She lied, telling him her family had been in trouble and she had left to avoid burdening him.

That night, Nathaniel held her, his eyes red, and promised he would cure

Patrick before the targeted drugs failed.

Later, Nathaniel’s company flourished

He became a celebrated artist with immense social standing.

Estelle hated it.

She hated that when she was with him, he had nothing.

Why did Vivienne get to be his wife and enjoy the benefits?

Fortunately, Nathaniel’s indecision had finally subsided over the years.

And when forced to choose, he would pick her over Vivienne.

So one night, after making sure he was drunk, Estelle stopped Patrick’s medication.

She orchestrated events, making it inevitable that Nathaniel would see Veronica as the potential donor for Patrick.

It was meant to break Vivienne’s heart and drive her away for good.

But Nathaniel was still pining for the woman who bore him a brain- damaged child.

Crying, Estelle took out her phone and made a call.

“I need you to take care of someone. Once I’m Mrs. Sanford, name your price.”

Meanwhile, in the bedroom of the Sanford’s villa, Nathaniel dialed Vivienne’s number over and over.

Each time, he was met only by the cold, automated message that her phone was switched off.

“Vivi, I miss you. Please don’t be angry with me anymore.

“From now on, I’ll always put you and our daughter first. I won’t choose anyone else…”

He paused, suddenly remembering that Veronica was gone.

A wave of unprecedented panic washed over him.

“Vivi, we can have other children, okay? Vivi, please don’t shut me out… I can’t live without you…”

The room was empty.

Night after night, when he fell apart, she had been there, easing him with a touch on the back and a quiet song. That solace was now forever out of reach.

Time blurred-maybe hours, maybe days.

Finally, Nathaniel’s phone rang.

He answered it eagerly, but it wasn’t Vivienne.

“I told you not to disturb me unless it was important,” he barked.

The frantic voice on the other end sounded.

“Mr. Sanford, you need to get to the company immediately! Mrs. Sanford is turning everything upside down!”
