A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy’s Woman 117

Chapter 117

After getting out of the car, Nora spotted her boyfriend talking on the phone and waved.

He called out, “Nora!”

“Eddy, have you been waiting long?”

Nora had been with Edward Night for two years. She could not say she loved him deeply, but he treated her genuinely well.

It had taken him a full year just to win her over.

That was why Nora had been willing to follow him back to the country.

“Today I ran into the child I mentioned yesterday–the one who called me ‘mom‘. He got lost, so I called his family to come pick him up.”

Edward smiled warmly, carefully smoothing the loose strands of hair by her temple. “Really? That’s rather pitiful. It’s a good thing he ran into you. That child’s parents seem a bit careless.”

Careless? From what she had seen, they didn’t quite seem so.

Still, when a child wandered off, the adults inevitably bore some responsibility.

“Do

you like children?” Edward asked, smiling. He held her hand and leaned in closer. “Nora, when are we going to get married? We can have one of our own‘

Nora’s smile dimmed slightly. “Eddy, we agreed that before I turn 30, we wouldn’t think about having children.”

Edward paused, then ruffled her hair. “I know. I was just joking. Alright. Let’s not talk about unhappy things. Let’s go eat.

But Edward was five years older than she was. When she turned 30, he would already be 35.

Three days later, Ella was discharged from the hospital.

After the car accident, Gary no longer dared to provoke her.

Diana knew everything stemmed from Ella, yet with no way to reach Bethany, she could only seek help elsewhere.

So, Diana brought Ella to the nursing home.

“Sarah, this is Ella, Gary’s daughter.”

Ella behaved politely, greeting Sarah softly, “Hello, Grandma.”

Sarah’s expression remained calm. “Hello.”

She wasn’t that fond of Ella. After all, it was Ella who had taken away the maternal affection that should have belonged to Bethany.

Turning the rosemary beads in her hand, she asked quietly, “You didn’t come today without a reason, did you?”

During the years she had lived at the nursing home, Diana had visited fewer than five times. Yet in this month alone, she had already come twice.

People rarely visited her without an agenda. Sarah could not help but wonder what Diana was

after.

Her intuition, however, told her it was nothing good.

Diana smiled faintly and gave Ella a gentle push. “Ella, why don’t you explain? Sarah has always been fair and reasonable. Once you explain, she’ll understand.”

Ella smiled lightly. “Grandma, I came today to apologize. There was a small misunderstanding between Bethany and me before, which led to some unpleasantness. But she won’t answer my calls, so I had no choice but to come here and ask for your help.”

Ella spoke calmly about the large–scale online harassment targeting Bethany, deliberately downplaying her own role while shifting all the blame onto Axel.

Sarah, who had been resting with her eyes closed, suddenly opened them and fixed her gaze on Ella. “Are you saying that Bethany was subjected to online harassment a few days ago because of you?”

Her breathing grew rapid as she called for the caregiver. “Look it up online for me and read it aloud.”

Diana’s and Ella’s expressions changed instantly. They tried to stop her, but it was already too late. The caregiver followed her instructions and began reading it aloud,
