A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy’s Woman 114

Chapter 114

Bethany woke up stiff and uneasy. The moment she opened her eyes, she was greeted by a strikingly handsome face.

She had no idea how she had ended up in Silas‘ arms. His arm rested around her waist with just the right amount of pressure, and her thigh was draped over his leg in a posture she immediately found mortifying.

She cautiously moved her leg away, only to be pulled closer instead. She was so close that she could hear his slow, even breathing.

Unable to resist, she studied his face. He was exceptionally good–looking. His long lashes cast faint shadows beneath his eyes, his nose straight, his lips softened in sleep, stripped of their usual sharpness.

When awake, Silas always wore a faint, inscrutable smile, as if he were plotting something. But when he was asleep, his features softened, making him look unexpectedly gentle.

She tried to roll out of his arms again, finally stirring him awake. His eyelids lifted, and his dark eyes met hers squarely.

“You’re awake?” His voice was low and hoarse near her ear.

“Yes.” Bethany turned away awkwardly, showing him her back.

Silas chuckled. “Are you feeling embarrassed? You were the one who insisted on sleeping in the master bedroom last night and then crawled straight into my arms.”

Rubbing his chest, he added teasingly, “I pushed you away, but you kept squeezing back in. No matter what I did, I couldn’t shove you off. You should check–my chest might even be sore

from you.”

The moment his warm hand brushed her fingers, Bethany jerked away.

“Don’t come any closer. I didn’t do that,” she protested stiffly. “Don’t slander me. And I didn’t choose the master bedroom on purpose. Your dad came by, found out we were sleeping separately, and had my luggage moved.”

“Alright,” he said with a soft laugh. “I guess that was rough on you. Still, you slept pretty

soundly.”

Flustered, Bethany jumped out of bed. “I’m going to wash up.”

Silas laughed quietly, hands folded behind his head, eyes closed as he tried to rein in the

restlessness in his chest.

Just holding her without being able to do anything was somehow worse.

Bethany went to Evan’s room, where he had just woken up. Scratching his head shyly, he said, “Aunt Betty, I need to change.”

“Go ahead,” Bethany replied. “I’ll wait in the dining room.”

Evan was so young, yet already so self–aware.

Evan and Silas arrived at the table almost simultaneously. Evan darted ahead, claiming the seat beside Bethany.

Silas snorted softly and took the chair across from her.

“You can stay here,” he said coolly, “but you need to follow the rules. Be in bed by nine. No running around at night. You can’t be picky with your food. Eat whatever Jane makes. And finish your homework on your own. I don’t have time to tutor you.”

“It’s not just your house!” Evan protested. “This is Aunt Betty’s home too! And you have way too many rules!”

Silas smiled, a warning flickering beneath the calm. “It’s our home, yes. But with one phone call, I can send you straight back to yours. Care to test it out?”

Evan immediately backed down, lowering his head to eat his pancake. “Got it, Uncle Silas. You like to nag.”

Silas clicked his tongue, then looked at Bethany. “I’m leaving on a business trip tonight. I’ll be back next Monday. Don’t miss me too much. Call me if anything happens. I’ll keep my phone

on.”

As always, he managed to make the atmosphere subtly charged.

“I know,” Bethany replied quietly.
