A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy’s Woman 113
Chapter 113
Nora smiled faintly. She explained, “My parents both speak the language. Hearing it all the time growing up, it’s natural that I don’t have an accent.”
After asking around, Bethany was certain that no matter how alike she looked, Nora could not possibly be Evan’s mother.
After all, no mother would ever fail to recognize their own child. And Nora’s reactions did not seem rehearsed in the slightest.
That afternoon, Bethany received a call from Jeremy.
“Jeremy,” she greeted him, still feeling a familiar tension whenever she spoke to her father–in
-law.
She worried that the carefully maintained facade of her marriage with Silas might be exposed.
“Beth,” Jeremy said, sighing. “Evan has been clamoring about running away from home. Since he likes you so much, would you mind letting him stay at your place for a few days?”
Bethany paused briefly, then smiled. “Of course not. He can stay for a few days. It’s just that Jane might not be able to manage on her own. Perhaps the one who usually looks after Evan could come along?”
“Good, good. That’s perfect. Let him stay for a week. After that, I’ll have his father pick him up.
Bethany readily agreed. She had offered to pick Evan up herself, but Jeremy insisted on bringing him over personally.
Before leaving, Evan made a face at Julian on the couch, then followed Jeremy out with his head held high.
Julian could only shake his head helplessly and call Silas.
When Jeremy arrived at Bethany and Silas‘ home, he exchanged a knowing look with Jane.
Taking the hint, Jane asked cheerfully, “Evan, which room would you like to stay in?”
At six years old, Evan could already sleep alone at night, though the nanny usually stayed in the adjacent room for convenience.
He pointed decisively to Bethany’s bedroom. “I’ll stay here.”
Coincidentally, the guest room next door was empty.

Jane said, “Alright. I’ll stay here, and you’ll be right next door to each other.”
Noticing the clothes hanging at the foot of the bed, Evan protested, “Grandpa, someone’s already using this room!”
“It’s fine.” Jeremy waved it off. “Those belong to Bethany. I’ll have Jane call her. She’ll agree to let you stay here.”
Jane quietly flashed an “okay” sign, and Jeremy looked rather pleased.
It seemed the issue of Silas and Bethany sleeping in separate rooms had been neatly resolved.
When Bethany returned from work and saw that all her belongings had been moved into the master bedroom, she felt as though her world had collapsed.
She asked, “Jane, what happened?”
Jane smiled awkwardly. “Mrs. Brennan, this was Mr. Brennan Senior’s instruction. I told him it was your dressing room since I couldn’t say that you and Mr. Brennan sleep separately.
“And with Evan here, he’s clever enough to notice. If he found out, he’d definitely tell Mr.
Brennan Senior.”
Bethany gave a dry laugh. “I understand.”
Fortunately, Silas hadn’t come home yet due to a social gathering. Otherwise, she would have been mortified beyond measure.
After washing up, she glanced at the wide bed and chose the inner side, turning off the lights at 9:30 pm. She forced herself to sleep.
If Silas came back after she was already asleep, at least she wouldn’t have to face the
awkwardness.
Just before 11:00 pm, Silas entered the room and noticed a figure on the bed.
His expression darkened as he approached quietly. Bethany slept on her side, unaware, slipped shoulder strap rising and falling gently in the dim light.
His throat tightened. Then, he turned and stepped into the shower.

He emerged quickly, his body still warm with steam, and slipped into bed behind her. From this close, he caught the faint scent of her hair.
He wrapped an arm around Bethany and drew her into his embrace.
She murmured softly in her sleep and instinctively pressed closer to his chest.

Leaning in, his lips nearly brushing her neck, he let out a low, amused breath. “Darling, this time, you’re the one who initiated.”
