A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy’s Woman 107
Chapter 107
Noah immediately told his driver to turn the car around. He had never imagined that Ella already knew everything. What she didn’t know was that, for a long time now, she had already been at the very center of his heart.
Once, when Noah was 12, he went to the Reid family as a guest. While passing by an attic, he heard a cat–like crying sound.
Driven by curiosity, he climbed up to the attic, and the sobbing grew more distinct. He saw a door locked from the outside. After undoing the latch, he saw a young girl whose face was smeared with dust, crying so pitifully that anyone who saw her would feel sorry.
She was only a few years old, barely reaching his knees. Noah had always disliked children who cried, regardless of gender.
Yet the filthy young girl before him–her bright, watery eyes fluttering with anxious fear- made him realize, for the first time, that a crying child could be something other than annoying. Only then did he remember that the Reid family’s girl had just lost her mother.
He patted her head gently. “Don’t cry. Your face is covered in tears. I’ll take you downstairs, alright? Is it because your mom is gone that they’re picking on you?”
Gary had remarried not long before, leaving a child that young with a stepmother.
“Don’t be scared. As long as I’m here, no one will bully you,” he told her softly.
The next time he saw her was during the darkest period of his own life.
After his grandmother, who doted on him the most, passed away, Noah found it difficult to smile for a long time.
Then, one spring day, he heard piano music drifting from the neighboring Reid residence. The young girl he had seen before seemed to have grown a little taller.
Noah had once studied the piano, and by coincidence, she was playing his grandmother’s favorite piece.
He leaned against the wall outside and listened for a long while. When he finally turned back, the girl had already run off.
From that moment on, the young girl from the Reid family slowly found her way into his
heart.
After turning 13, Noah went abroad to study and did not return until after graduating from

Ella was like an indelible mark etched deep into his heart.

Bethany, by contrast, was like a soft night lamp, glowing gently when one woke in the dark. He liked her presence, her scent. Even lying side by side in silence brought him a quiet sense of
peace.
He was willing to leave a place beside him for Bethany, but that place could never outweigh Ella’s position in his heart. And yet, in the end, he still hurt the woman he cherished the most.
Noah rushed to the hospital. “Doctor, how is she?”
“She’s alright. She just has minor external injuries. She struck the back of her head, so we’ll keep her under observation for a few days to make sure there’s no internal bleeding. Otherwise, everything is fine.”
Noah entered the ward and looked at the pale face resting quietly on the hospital bed, his chest tightening with pain.
Perhaps it had been his hesitation and indecision that caused her harm. At this moment, he made a silent vow to stop thinking about anyone else.
To him, Ella was the most important thing to him.
An hour later, Ella slowly regained consciousness. When she opened her eyes, she saw Noah’s refined profile. “Noah? I’m thirsty…”
Her throat felt unbearably dry.
Noah gently lifted her into his arms and brought the cup to her lips. “Here, drink slowly. The doctor said you’re basically fine. You’ll just need to stay in the hospital for a couple of days for observation, to make sure there’s no internal bleeding in your head. So don’t worry.”
