A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy’s Woman 104

Chapter 104

Bethany didn’t get home until ten, having spent the evening dealing with the ticket

arrangements.

She had just slipped off her shoes in the entryway when she heard movement from the kitchen.

“Silas?” she called out uncertainly.

Silas was leaning casually against the counter, a bottle of mineral water fresh from the fridge in his hand, its surface already fogged with condensation.

He looked as though he’d just finished showering, a bathrobe draped loosely over his body, the open collar revealing firm, defined abs.

He twisted the cap open and took a drink, his Adam’s apple bobbing as a thin trail of water slid down his jaw, traced his abdomen, and disappeared beneath the robe.

His tone was as languid and teasing as ever. “Back already, Miss Workaholic?” The mischief in his eyes was unmistakable.

Bethany walked over and cleared her throat. “About that… Thank you. Oscar told me that you had someone step in to help.”

Silas‘ brows lifted slightly. Before he could reply, she held out an envelope and said, Tomorrow’s Saturday. I heard there’s a basketball exhibition game with some pretty big names coming. Would you be interested?”

He narrowed his eyes and opened the envelope slowly. Inside was a single ticket. “So this is how you’re thanking me?”

“Yes. Holly said you played basketball in high school, so I thought you might enjoy it.”

It wasn’t a couple’s ticket this time; it felt more like a personal invitation.

The proud Silas smiled. “Alright. I’m free that day. I’ll go with you.”

Bethany hesitated, as if she wanted to explain that it wasn’t meant that way, but in the end said nothing. She figured that seeing Oscar there later could count as a surprise.

When she didn’t correct him, Silas‘ smile deepened. He said, “Go get some rest. Don’t worry about anything else.”

After thanking him again, Bethany returned to her room. Silas made no effort to hide the indulgent warmth in his gaze as he looked down at the ticket.

He wondered if Bethany, this blockhead, had finally caught on.

When Silas woke and came out dressed casually, Jane informed him that Bethany had already

gone out.

He raised an eyebrow. “Do you know where Mrs. Brennan went?”

“I’m not sure. But she was dressed up quite nicely. She probably went shopping with friends.”

A satisfied smile tugged at his lips. Clearly, she was taking their date seriously. He understood. Going out with someone as handsome as him, it was only natural to be shy.

“I’m heading out. We won’t be back for dinner tonight,” Silas said.

Before Jane could respond, he stepped into the elevator.

Jane frowned and murmured to herself, “But Mrs. Brennan said she’d be home for dinner…”

On the way, Silas stopped by a flower shop, bought a bouquet of roses, and placed them in the truck, planning to give them to Bethany after the game.

With a ticket in one hand and the other tucked into his pocket, he watched the crowd stream

into the arena.

As the start time approached, he frowned and was about to call Bethany when an unwelcome voice sounded behind him.

“What? Silas, you’re here too? Didn’t Bethany come with you?”

Silas glanced at the ticket in Oscar’s hand and immediately sensed something was wrong. He asked, “Why are you here?”

Oscar laughed. “Oh, Bethany said she had an extra ticket yesterday and gave it to me. I thought you two came together.”

Silas‘ eyes narrowed. He snatched the ticket from Oscar’s hand and saw that the seats were

next to each other.

It seemed that he had underestimated Bethany’s generosity.

“Hey, why are you leaving?” Oscar called after Silas, confused.

Silas shoved the tickets back into Oscar’s hand. “Go find one of your pretty boys to watch the game with you.”

Oscar was left speechless.

Had Bethany misunderstood something? Or was she doing this on purpose?
