A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy’s Woman 10

Chapter 10

Bethany kept replaying everything in her head, attempting to figure out where things had gone wrong. How could she have made such a mistake?

The most ridiculous part was that she had already registered a marriage with the man standing in front of her, the heir of the Brennan family. Bethany took a deep breath and said calmly, “Thank you, Mr. Brennan.”

Silas smiled meaningfully. “Don’t mention it.”

He shifted his gaze to Gary and asked, “Are you here for a family gathering, Mr. Reid?”

“Yeah, something like that.” Gary didn’t want to discuss the marriage alliance with the Brannons, fearing others might see it as him selling off his daughter–especially since she was his wife’s child from a previous marriage.

Silas noticed his reluctance to dwell on the subject. “I see. I have another dinner engagement, so please excuse me.”

Yet, before he left, his dark eyes lingered on Bethany for a brief moment. Bethany forced herself to remain calm, though she couldn’t help but wonder if the dinner with the Brannons was still necessary.

Once he was out of sight, Gary muttered, “Mr. Brennan must be in a good mood today.”

Silas had never addressed him so politely at social functions.

Diana urged, “Enough talking. Let’s go. The Brannons must be growing impatient.”

She pushed open the private room door with Bethany. Fortunately, Cyrus wasn’t there yet.

Cyrus‘ mother, Emma Sterling, smiled warmly. “I’m terribly sorry, Diana. My son couldn’t make it today. However, his father and I are here. It doesn’t really matter if he’s here or not.

“This must be Beth. She’s beautiful!”

Emma was quite pleased with Bethany. Considering her son’s reputation, it would already be a relief if he could marry a woman from a decent family.

Besides, Bethany was Diana’s daughter. Even though she came from Diana’s previous marriage, she still had ties to the Reid family.

Gary smiled as he exchanged pleasantries with Cyrus‘ father, Lance Brannon, while Bethany sat there in a daze.

Just then, her phone lit up. It was a text message.

Silas: “I’m sorry. Can we talk tonight?”

Bethany lowered her gaze and bit her lip. She replied, “Alright.”

They needed to talk.

Bethany was both annoyed and close to tears over her own stupidity. She had gone and registered a marriage with a complete stranger, only to realize that she had married the wrong man.

Silas was hardly innocent either. He had known from the start that she wasn’t his blind date, yet he had never corrected her.

Right then, Silas fell completely out of favor in Bethany’s eyes.

“What’s on your mind, Beth?” Diana shot her a pointed look.

Bethany forced a smile. “Nothing. My company just called me back. I’m sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Brannon, but I’ll have to excuse myself.”

Diana’s expression changed in an instant. She was about to reprimand her when Gary stopped her with a look.

“Be careful on the way, Beth,” he said kindly.

Bethany practically bolted out of the private room. The tight, suffocating feeling in her chest only let up a little when she

reached the entrance of the club.

Just then, a familiar Bugatti pulled up at the entrance with its hazard lights flashing. Her phone rang the very next second,

“Get in,” Silas said curtly.

Bethany walked over reluctantly. “Let’s get a divorce, Mr. Brennan.”

Silas‘ profile hardened in the car. “Save it. Let’s talk when we get home.”

She was rendered speechless. He was the one who had caused all this, and now he was telling her to shut up.

Still, when she noticed the veins protruding on the back of his hand as he gripped the steering wheel, she decided not to provoke him further. Her safety came first, after all.
