PAPER VOWS Novel Chapter 21

PAPER VOWS
CHAPTER 21
JADE MARSHAL
“I need to use the bathroom,” I say to Giselle. I know I have a weak bladder – it’s something I cannot control. This is why I love drinking when at home, so I make my bathroom trips in peace. I have been to the bathroom three times since I got here, and this will be my fourth time.
“Jade, you were just there minutes ago,” says Giselle. It must be nice being here. She hasn’t even gone once.
“I know, but I need to go again.”
“What are you going to do if you get pregnant when you are already peeing like a pregnant lady?” She shakes her head, puts her glass down and then stands, ready to accompany me to the bathroom.
“Elis, we are going to the bathroom, and no, you don’t need to come with us,” I say to Elis. I hope he listens this time. The last time Giselle and I went there, he followed. “Don’t follow us, please, we are just going to the bathroom.”
“Okay, Miss Marshal, but if you are gone too long, I will follow,” Elis says.
“I will make sure to bring her soon, Elis,” says Giselle as we walk away, heading to the bathroom. The last time I was at this club, it was during the week and it wasn’t packed like this. Giselle and I use the bathroom and then wash our hands.
“Have you and Dante decided when you want to get married?” Giselle asks, catching the attention of the lady near her.
The lady looks at me and says, “You are Jade Marshal? I thought I recognised you. Can we take a photo?”
“I am sure I look a mess, I have been drinking since six pm,” I say, hoping that she could say next time, but she wants a photo. She introduces herself as Mandy and asks Giselle to take a picture of us. I’ve had a little too much to drink, so I am posing with all the confidence in the world.
“Thanks so much, am I allowed to post these?” Mandy asks.
Giselle answers, “Are you two done so we can go?”
Mandy says, “How is it like being Dante Lyon’s woman?” How is the s*x?”
“Don’t answer that,” Giselle takes my hand, and we head out.
What is wrong with people? How can one ask a stranger that? On a normal day, I would be offended, but right now Giselle and I are just laughing at it. Maybe we should tell Elis to take us back home. We have had a lot to drink.
“Let’s go dance,” I say to Giselle, leading her to where there is a crowd of people dancing, but she pulls me back.
“Dante put us in the VIP session for a reason. You said it yourself that you represent him.”
“We meet again,” someone speaks into my ear. It takes me a second to notice that it’s that man from earlier. I forgot his name.
“Didn’t I tell you to leave me alone?” I ask him.
“Who is this?” Giselle asks.
The man has to shout so that we hear him over this loud music, “My name is Ric. What is your name?”
“My name is Giselle.”
“Who is this?” The man asks, his eyes are on me the whole time.
Giselle answers, “This is my little sister, Jade.”
“Jade wouldn’t even give me a chance to talk to her,” says Ric.
“Jade is spoken for; she is not allowed to speak to other men. It was nice to meet you, Ric,” Giselle takes my hand, and we go back to our seats. When it’s just us, Giselle says, “What is it with you and knowing the hottest men ever?”
“I don’t even know who that man is. I saw him when I was going to the bathroom – he was hitting on me.”
Giselle answers, “He is hot and all that, but don’t forget you have Mr Lyon.”
“How can I forget that when you remind me every two minutes. That reminds me, let me check on Dante. I will step out with Elis.”
“Okay, don’t take too long,” she says, pouring herself more alcohol. At least she has stopped talking about James. I ask Elis to come with me so I can make a phone call. We step outside and call Dante.
Dante: Hey sweetheart.
I smile at those words.
Me: Hey, I am checking on you.
Dante: I never get checked on. Thank you. Are you ladies still good there?
Me: We are good, Giselle hasn’t talked about James in thirty minutes – that’s good.
Dante: I hope men are not bothering you there.
Me: Just this one that won’t take a no, but nothing I cannot handle.
Dante: Who is bothering you?
Me: It’s nothing serious. Are you going to come join us here?
Dante: I still have to take care of something here. It would be lovely to find you in my bed tonight.
Me: Then you will find me there. Is it fine if I bring Giselle with me to the house?
Dante: The house is big enough for a soccer team.
Me: You will find us at your house then.
Dante: Our house, Jade Marshal. Give Elis the phone.
What does this man want to say to Elis now? I hand the phone to Elis and walk back to where Giselle is.
“What did your man say?” Giselle asks when I sit next to her.
“He said he would love to find me in his bed.”
“It’s fine, go ahead and rub it in my face that your man wants to eat you up while I found mine inside another,” she says, shaking her head.
“How is that my fault? I am not going to deny my man happiness because yours was unfaithful.”
“It’s fine, I will also get a man who is faithful,” she says, pretending to be sad. Then she adds, “Is he good though? It’s rare for them to be rich and good in bed.”
“So far, I have no complaints when it comes to Dante. The only problem is his not being emotionally available. But he promised to try and be the man I want.”
Giselle smiles for the first time tonight. “That’s cute. The fact that he tries is enough”
“Hello, ladies!” That Ric man joins us. Don’t men understand the word no? How did he get past Elis? The last time he tried to get here, Elis stopped him.
“We said we are not interested,” Giselle says to Ric.
He ignores Giselle and says to me, “Can I have your phone number cutie?”
“I said leave me alone,” I reply to him.
“I would leave you alone if you gave me your number,” he answers with a smirk.
“Alaric, come with us,” says a man I didn’t even see walk towards us. It’s actually three men – they look like the club security.
“What is this?”
“You are bothering the ladies, we don’t appreciate that,” the man says to Ric.
Ric sucks his teeth, “Does it look like I am bothering them? They are fine.”
“Come with us…”
Alaric rudely interjects, “Or what? Have you forgotten who I am?”
The man roughly picks up Alaric by his collar – they literally drag him away. I look at Elis, who hands me my phone and tells me not to worry about Alaric.
“Where are they taking him?” I ask Elis.
“Don’t worry about him.”
“I think Giselle and I are really to leave.” I don’t like what just happened. What are they going to do to Alaric? I think Giselle should just leave, so no one bothers us and ends up being escorted out by security.
“You don’t have to leave because of him, Miss Marshal,” Elis answers, but I tell him we are ready to leave. First, Giselle and I use the bathroom, then Elis escorts us out.
Elis drives us to Dante’s house. On our way there, we are singing along to Beyoncé and having the time of our lives. Just a week ago, my life was boring; now I am having the best time of my life. Maybe losing my job and meeting Dante was the best thing that ever happened to me.
“Holy…” I cover Giselle’s mouth before she curses. “Is this his house?”
“This is his house.”
“This is gorgeous. Damn!” she says, looking around.
