Chapter 36
“Me?”
Asher stepped forward and naturally slid into the empty seat beside Juliet. He picked up her cutlery, fed himself a piece of meat, and chewed unhurriedly. “Her husband.”
The legal weight of those words made the flirting Bob instantly lose his bravado.
Asher’s patience was thin.
“Can’t
you see we’re having a family meal? Do you really think that face of yours is worth her gaze?”
He even tilted his head slightly to show off his own looks. He was weaponizing his face.
Bob flushed crimson. His lips twitched before he slinked away in humiliation.
Asher casually reached for Juliet’s glass of water and took a sip.
Ariane folded her arms as she glared at the intruder. “If it isn’t the ex-husband. What a
coincidence.”
Asher picked up another bite of food as if he didn’t hear her sarcasm.
“This is a coincidence. I’m here for my wife.” He emphasized the words “my wife”.
Ariane let out a sharp laugh. “Isn’t your wife pregnant in the hospital right now? What are you doing here?”
Asher’s hand froze. He shot a warning glare.
“Watch your mouth, Ariane. I’m not an ex-husband.”
“I may have a dirty mouth, but it’s cleaner than some people,” Ariane shot back without flinching. “At least I’m not covered in another woman’s perfume while parading in front of my own wife.”
Asher’s expression darkened. He slammed the cutlery onto the table with a sharp crack. ” Looks like you’ve got too much time on your hands since you’re stirring up trouble. Let me make this clear: don’t give her any weird ideas. She’s simple and easily influenced by people like you.”
“Juliet?” Ariane sneered. “You’ve got the nerve to say that out loud. You know damn well what you’ve done!”

Asher’s temple throbbed. “How many times do I have to tell you that Evangeline’s just a classmate?”
“Your classmate?” Ariane’s voice dripped with scorn.
“Does a classmate warrant you sneaking out in the middle of the night repeatedly? Do you hear yourself?”
Asher was struck silent. He forced his anger down. “Stop adding fuel to the fire.”
“So, you’d cheat but not admit it?” Ariane snapped. “What kind of man does that?”
Asher couldn’t be bothered arguing with her anymore. He grabbed Juliet’s hand and softened his tone. “Juliet, don’t believe-”
“Whatever the truth is, our relationship is over, Asher,” Juliet cut him off and shook his hand free. “Let’s end this cleanly. Please sign the divorce papers as soon as possible.”
She stood and picked up her bag. “Ari, let’s go.”
Ariane followed instantly, but not before shooting Asher a final glare.
‘Keep pestering her, and I’ll beat you up myself, ex-husband!”
Asher was fuming. He watched Juliet’s retreating figure. Words rolled up his throat, but he swallowed them back down.
Leaning into the chair, he rubbed his brow irritably.
Amanda had slashed the Stone family’s salaries by half.
He had come to Juliet to tell her he would handle it and to ask if she had enough money.
Instead, he got into a fight with her best friend and pissed Juliet off enough to make her leave.
Asher slammed his fist into the table in frustration.
Just then, his phone rang.
It was Evangeline.
