Save Your Pleas: I’m With Your Best Friend Now Novel Chapter 32

Chapter 32

Juliet used to think that no one could ever hurt her as long as Asher was around.

Juliet returned to the present and gazed at the pudgy, sleazy face before her. This was no longer the youth who would crumple to the ground after a single sucker punch. Asher was no longer around to defend her either.

He was currently protecting another woman.

Juliet knew very well that Evangeline didn’t just want to be like a sister to Asher. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be seeking a married man like him out without any sense of boundaries. Evangeline even often used her soft-spoken digs to assert dominance.

Juliet had crossed paths with Evangeline many times now and didn’t mind continuing this. After all, Juliet was bound to face such issues, given she’d married a handsome and rich husband.

But what concerned Juliet was the fact that Asher remained wilfully oblivious to Juliet and Evangeline’s “exchanges “. He might have defended Juliet in front of Amanda, but he would never fail to save Evangeline from embarrassment.

Juliet had once overheard Asher say to his friend, “Juliet won’t mind. She knows me best and knows when to make the right move.”

Did Juliet’s ability to be considerate and understanding warrant her total disregard from Asher?

Juliet finally saw things clearly based on those words.

Asher had always been the one with all the power in their relationship. Even if Juliet married him, their positions would never be equal. Asher would always look down at her from above, controlling her.

In Asher’s subconscious mind, this difference in status would only cement the fact that it was Juliet who managed to marry him due to her lucky stars-that she climbed her way to the top with this.

The determined look in Juliet’s eyes grew stronger.

She had to face her own battles now that she’d forgo the Greene family’s protection.

“So what if I’ve divorced Asher? Do you actually think you have a chance with me? Let me make this very clear, Caleb-I’ll never ever date a piece of shit like you, not even if I’m stripped of everything I have!” Juliet said.

Caleb’s expression darkened. “Do you actually think so highly of yourself?”

He scoffed. “Who do you think you are, huh? You’re nothing more than a housekeeper’s daughter! Do you think Asher would’ve set his sights on you if it weren’t for your good looks? What right do you have to act all proud in front of me now that he doesn’t want you anymore?

Juliet took out her phone and called the police. “Hello, 911? I’m at the Millennium Mall on Wharfstreet. There’s someone harassing me as we speak…”

Caleb’s expression changed immediately. He felt incredibly embarrassed at being made a fool of by Juliet.

“Are you insane?” He hissed.

Juliet sneered. “Do you think you can do whatever you please without consequence, all because you have a bit of wealth? Since you’re harassing me, it’s only right that I call the police on you, isn’t it?”

“Just you wait!” Caleb snapped. He glared at Juliet before walking away, violently cussing her out as he did.

Juliet stood where she was with her phone still in hand. Her knuckles were whitening from how hard she gripped the device.

Caleb’s words had dug up her buried memories of old.

Juliet recalled living in the village with James when she was ten years old, prior to staying with the Greene family. James drank himself into a stupor every day and spent all his time playing cards with several other useless bums out in the yard. The smoke from their cigarettes would permeate the space as their gruff laughter cut through the air.

“Your daughter is as pretty as a fairy, James.”

“Of course she is! With my incredibly handsome looks and her mother’s beauty, our girl is bound to be pretty!” James said.

“Jules is definitely going to be a real beauty when she grows up. Once she comes of age, I’ll marry her off to the local coal mine owner. The bridal gift alone should fetch half a million dollars!” He boasted.

“Who knows? She might even be able to bring you along to the big city, where you can live out days in luxury!”

“She’s a little skinny though, isn’t she? You’ll have to feed your golden goose more and plump
