“…Zach made it.”
“Who?” Ariane’s voice shot up an octave as she rushed out of the kitchen. “Zachary Wilson?”
Juliet nodded. Ariane stared at her like she was an alien. “Holy shit! Juliet, you’re impressive! He came over to cook for you yesterday? You actually bagged him?”
“What are you thinking?” Juliet laughed at her exaggerated reaction. “He came as Asher’s mediator, and while he was at it… helped me change the door lock.”
She briefly explained what had happened the day before. Ariane listened, rubbing her chin, suspicion written all over her face. “I don’t know… A busy finance bigshot personally coming over to change your lock and cook for you? That’s some special service.”
“Zach has always been nice,” Juliet explained. “He genuinely cares about me and Asher.”
Ariane pursed her lips, still feeling that it wasn’t that simple. But seeing Juliet’s calm expression, she didn’t press further. “Alright. I’ll give him credit.”
She returned to the kitchen, muttering as she washed the vegetables. “But honestly, if all men were half as considerate and good at cooking as Zachary, there wouldn’t be so many bitter married women in the world.”
She quickly prepared a simple meal and set the dishes on the table. “Eat. Eat more. Look how thin you are.
