Chapter 10
In less than five minutes, the doorbell rang.
Juliet opened the door to see two policemen in uniform standing at the door.
“Hello. Were you the one who made a police report?”
“Yes.” Juliet moved aside.
“A drunk man barged into my home and wouldn’t leave when I told him to.”
The two policemen looked at Asher in confusion.
Asher stood in the living room, wearing an expensive suit and looking very distinguished. He didn’t look like a drunk man who had barged in at all!
One of the policemen walked over.
Asher looked menacing. “I’m-”
“She says you’re trespassing in her home.” The policeman cut him off in a business-like tone. “Please show us your ID.”
Someone opened the door to the stairwell outside. The neighbors had heard the noise and were all sticking their heads out to see what was going on.
“Isn’t that Greene Corporation’s—”
“Oh my, what’s he doing here?”
“The police are here too. What could be going on?”
The sound of their whispers came through the door. Asher had never felt so embarrassed in
his life.
He pulled out his wallet from his pocket and withdrew his ID, which he handed to the policeman. His brow was furrowed very tightly. “I’m her husband.”
The policeman took the ID and checked it before turning to ask Juliet, “He’s your husband?”
Juliet said, “We’re separated and in the midst of a divorce. I’ve already revoked his right to use the door lock. He came in without permission, and that’s trespassing on private property.”
The policeman realized what was going on and gave Asher his ID back. “Mister, since she does not want you here, please respect her wishes. If this happens again, we’ll have to deal with it according to the law.”

Asher gripped his car key tightly. “Fine. I’ll go.”
He gave Juliet a long look. She had been ruthless. Finally, he turned and walked into the elevator. The doors closed slowly, blocking him from view.
Outside the building, a Maybach was parked in the shadows.
Zachary was in the car. He watched Asher walk off as he tapped out a rhythm on his steering
wheel.
A perverse but satisfied smile spread across his face. “Jules, you’re so adorable when you get your claws out.”
Zachary returned to his own penthouse. He did not turn on the lights and went right through the cold, empty living room.
Silvery moonlight cascaded all over the floor, outlining the furniture within. The decor was in shades of black and gray, which made the place look cold and lifeless. It was a bachelor’s pad,
and there was no warmth in it at all.
Zachary pushed open a heavy door and walked inside. It was his sculpture studio.
His tools were hung neatly on one entire wall, while an unfinished wooden sculpture stood right in the middle.
The sculpture already had the shape of a human. It was a young girl in a school uniform with her hair in a ponytail. There was a vague smile on her face.
Zachary had spent years carving it from memory.
The sculpture was of Juliet.
His fingertips brushed the wooden girl’s cheek gently, and a sweltering afternoon from his memories rose up in his mind once more.
The basketball court at his high school was filled with sweating youths. Asher made a perfect three-point shot, which made all the girls scream.
Juliet was in her blue-and-white uniform, carrying two bottles of iced water. She weaved through the crowd like a joyful butterfly and headed straight for Asher, who was the center of
attention.
“Here, Ash!” Juliet’s eyes had sparkled like stars, and Asher was the only thing she could see.
Zachary stood at the other end of the court, watching her quietly and hopefully.
After Juliet gave Asher the water, it took her a while to think of Zachary, but she finally ran

“Here’s yours, Zach.”
Her voice was clear and soft.
He had just reached out and hadn’t even touched the bottle of water when Asher’s voice cate from afar. “Come here, Jules!”
His youthful voice was filled with pride.
“I’m coming!”
Juliet immediately stuffed the bottle of water into Zachary’s hands before turning and running back.
