I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up Chapter 37

Chapter 37

Sloane felt so wronged that she was on the verge of tears. She called Logan, wanting him to come back, but he didn’t answer her call.

After replacing all the locks, Vivian calmly cooked herself dinner.

With Diana staying with Sloane, Logan finally managed to get away and went to see Vivian.

He tried to use his key to open the door, only to find that the lock wouldn’t turn no matter

how hard he tried.

After several attempts, Logan realized that Vivian had changed the front door lock.

Why would she change the lock for no reason? It didn’t take much thinking to know that it was

to keep him out.

He had already humbled himself so much, even bringing Diana to try to appease Vivian. Yet, Vivian was still treating him like this.

Logan’s temper flared, and he knocked hard on the door in frustration. “Vivian! Open the door!

The neighbors on either side were irritated by the noise. One of them opened the door and shouted a couple of complaints.

“Keep it down! My kid is doing homework!”

Logan couldn’t bring himself to argue with the neighbor and quieted down.

But he didn’t leave. Instead, he stood at the door and took out his phone to call Vivian.

Vivian didn’t answer.

After ten minutes or so, Logan’s patience was completely worn out.

Still, he suppressed his anger and closed his eyes briefly. Then, he knocked again. it’s Logan. Please open the door for me.”

“Eleanor,

He had accompanied Vivian home after work to visit Eleanor several times before. At this hour, she definitely wouldn’t be asleep yet.

The elderly woman cared about her reputation and didn’t like being discussed by the neighbors. She would certainly open the door for him.

Inside the house, Vivian listened to Logan calling out as she sat silently at the dining table. Her

eyes slightly reddened as she took bites of her food.

Her grandmother would never open the door for anyone again.

The child doing homework next door couldn’t concentrate because of Logan’s shouting. Finally, the neighbor flew into a rage, yanked open her door, and stood there glaring at Logan. “She’s been dead and buried for over ten days already! What are you shouting out here for? Are you crazy?”

Logan’s hand froze mid–air, then stiffly dropped down. “What did you say?”

The neighbor had seen Logan a few times before and knew he was Vivian’s boyfriend. The neighbor frowned at Logan’s blank, shocked expression. “The old lady passed away over ten days ago. You didn’t know?”

Logan stood rooted to the spot, his expression filled with shock and confusion.

He hadn’t known. No one had told him.

He carefully replayed the recent times he’d come looking for Vivian. The bedroom door had always been tightly shut, and there was a memorial portrait hanging in the main hall.

Suddenly, everything made sense. No wonder Vivian refused to forgive him, no matter how much he lowered himself and tried to comfort her.

She had once told him that in this world, Eleanor was her only family.

Eleanor’s death must have devastated her.

And what had he been doing during that time?

At that moment, he realized he had been in a neighboring city. For a whole week, he’d used a business trip as an excuse to take Sloane around to a few places for fun.

Logan stood there stiffly, regret flooding his gaze.
