I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up Chapter 22

Chapter 22

1/2

Kingston’s coat had gotten soaked that day at the hospital when Vivian’s clothes got wet. After being discharged and returning home, she washed it by hand and hung it in the laundry room.

With a second chance in hand, Vivian felt some of her previous despair lift. She quietly encouraged herself as she mentally rehearsed how she would convince Kingston to buy

Whitfield Group’s shares.

She walked to the laundry room and froze, staring at the coat on the drying rack. It had shrunk

considerably.

Vivian frantically took the coat down, checking it repeatedly to confirm it was indeed Kingston’s. She stood there stunned. It seemed she had ruined it.

After a moment of chagrin, she pulled out her phone and searched online for solutions.

“How to fix a shrunken wool coat?”

Most of the posts were advertisements that offered no real solution. She could only take the shrunken coat to a dry cleaner.

The staff examined the coat’s brand and politely refused her request.

Clothing from this brand is extremely expensive. We can’t guarantee we can fix it, and if it gets damaged, we wouldn’t be able to compensate you.”

Vivian didn’t want to trouble them further. She left and sat in her car, calling the unfamiliar number she had received earlier.

The call was answered quickly.

She took a moment to organize her words and spoke quietly, her voice tinged with guilt.

“Mr. Hart, I’m so sorry. I… I think I ruined Mr. Howard’s coat when I washed it.”

There was silence on the other end.

Vivian quickly continued, “I’m truly sorry. It was my carelessness. I’m willing to reimburse the full cost…”

Before she could finish, a low, indifferent voice cut in.

“Well, you really are something,” Kingston said.

Embarrassed, Vivian clutched her phone and whispered, “I’m sorry.”

“Just bring the coat back to me first, then we’ll talk,” he said, then hung up.

Vivian slumped in her car and let out a groan. Lately, it seemed nothing had gone right, and now she had to face the one person she least wanted to see her humiliated.

She forced herself to calm down, started the car, and drove to Kingston’s luxury penthouse. Because of her previous visit, security had been stricter this time.

The property manager called Theo to confirm that Vivian’s visit had Kingston’s approval before letting her in.

Vivian smiled faintly, realizing what had happened. The last time she had left, she had only spoken curtly, yet Kingston had had her added to the visitor–approval list.

She stood at the door and pressed the doorbell. Her sullen expression softened into an apologetic smile as the door opened.

Kingston opened the door to see her, forced a polite smile, and held the shopping bag with the coat carefully in both hands.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Howard. My carelessness caused the coat to shrink. I’m willing to reimburse you the full cost.”

He took the bag and pulled out the coat. It looked even smaller in his hands.

Vivian avoided his eyes, her face marked with an awkward smile.

“How much did this coat cost? I’ll transfer the money to you right away.”
