Chapter 12
While Vivian stayed in the hospital for three days, Logan and Sloane only grew bolder.
During that time, she received plenty of anonymous messages from Whitfield Group employees. Some people didn’t even bother hinting. They told her outright that Logan and Sloane’s relationship wasn’t normal.
A fresh rookie wouldn’t receive that kind of special treatment from a CEO unless there was something going on between them.
Any reasonable person could see the blurry line between them. Logan, however, still thought he was hiding it well.
For the past few days, the only thing he had done was send Vivian one message a day to update her on his schedule. He hadn’t shown any real concern beyond that.
Maybe she had finally seen him for what he was, because she didn’t care as much anymore.
Her injury wasn’t severe. After three days, once the pain eased, she was discharged and went back to Eleanor’s house to recover.

While she was there, the wedding planner reached out to confirm a change to the photo they’d display at the venue.
“Ms. Hartwell, can you confirm you want to replace this photo as the main display at the wedding?”
Vivian had never asked to change the display photo. She immediately replied with a single question mark.
The planner responded at once. “Yesterday, our staff called Mr. Whitfield to confirm wedding details. The staff said you answered the phone and requested the change.”
Vivian understood immediately.
So, Logan was indulging Sloane to the point that she could pick up his calls whenever she wanted.
When Vivian didn’t respond for a while, the planner asked, “Ms. Hartwell, should we proceed with the replacement?”
They all believed the original photo Vivian had chosen was the best option. The new one was a distant shot. They could barely even see her face.

Chapter 12
“Replace it.”
If Logan was going to let Sloane leave her fingerprints all over the wedding, then Vivian didn’t mind giving him an unforgettable wedding.
The planner tried to talk her out of it, but Vivian’s stance didn’t budge. In the end, they could only follow her instructions.
They also wanted to schedule a meeting to finalize other details.
Vivian didn’t even think about it. She told them to carry out the plan exactly as originally designed.
Sensing the awkwardness, the planner chose not to ask anything further and ended the call.
Vivian put her phone away and lay back in the lounge chair in the yard, her eyes slowly closing. The last wash of sunset warmed her skin, and everything around her felt quiet and still.
She just hadn’t expected Sloane’s boss, Stella Scott, to come looking for her.
Stella stood at the gate with a gift bag in hand, her face drawn with exhaustion.
A flicker of confusion crossed Vivian’s eyes as she got up to open the gate.
“Ms. Scott, what brings you here?” Vivian stepped aside and invited Stella into the yard.
Stella let out a sigh, her voice heavy with resentment. “Ms. Hartwell, Halcyon Group is really in trouble this time. I found an excuse and fired Sloane yesterday. That same night, Mr. Whitfield said he was pulling Whitfield Group’s investment and halting the project.
“We’ve tried talking to him multiple times today. We even gave up more profit. He still insists on withdrawing.”
The project was already halfway underway. If Logan suddenly pulled out now, people would start speculating immediately. No one else would dare step in without funding.
Stella had run out of options. That was why she had come to Vivian.
The partnership with Halcyon Group had been Vivian’s push from the start. She knew exactly how much profit the project could bring Whitfield Group.
Whitfield Group had seven years of her life in it. She wasn’t going to sit back and watch Logan wreck the company’s interests just to vent on behalf of Sloane.
Under Stella’s anxious gaze, Vivian spoke with calm certainty. “Don’t worry, Ms. Scott. Whitfield Group won’t be withdrawing its investment from this project.”

Stella hesitated, then blurted out, “Mr. Whitfield already sent us a termination contract. He had Sloane deliver it to my office herself.”
The memory clearly still burned. Stella’s eyes flashed with anger.
When Sloane walked into her office, she acted smug and aloof, like she owned the place.
Halcyon Group had been a well–established company in Baymoor for over a decade. If their cash flow hadn’t hit a snag recently, they never would’ve partnered with Whitfield Group in the first place.
And now, just to stand up for his mistress, Logan had sent her to humiliate the owner of Halcyon Group. It was basically a public declaration that Whitfield Group had fallen out with Halcyon Group.
Logan had changed completely.
“Ms. Hartwell…” Stella’s confidence wavered when Vivian didn’t react right away.
Vivian guided her to a seat in the yard, her tone steady. “I’ll handle it. I’ll see it through. The project won’t be shut down.”
With Vivian’s assurance, Stella finally exhaled. Once she relaxed, she started talking nonstop, even offering Vivian “tips” on how to put a mistress in her place.
Vivian just smiled and let her talk.
Everyone seemed to assume Vivian would never actually leave. Logan probably believed that too. That was why he had been so reckless lately.
The next day, Vivian went to Whitfield Group.
On the way in, employees looked at her with sympathy. Some colleagues who knew her greeted her, but their expressions were awkward and strained.
Jack was the most awkward of them all.
When Vivian stepped out of the elevator, she happened to run into Jack waiting by the doors.
A moment ago, he’d been perfectly composed. The second he saw her, panic flashed across his face, as if an enemy had just appeared at the gates. Even his words tangled as he spoke.
“M–Ms. Hartwell, what are you doing here?”
Vivian glanced at his stiff, uneasy expression, then flicked her eyes toward Logan’s office. She

asked coldly, “I’m here at the wrong time, aren’t I?”
