After watching the video, Zoltan’s face was a mask of grim contemplation. He handed the phone back to Crispin, who took it and stepped back behind Haskell’s wheelchair.
Zoltan remained silent, lost in thought.
Faith couldn’t believe Haskell would stoop to secretly recording her. She shot a nervous glance at her brother, but he just stood there, his face a thundercloud. She wracked her brain, trying to come up with an explanation for their grandfather.
But before she could, Zoltan’s gaze fell on Solomon. “What do the two of you have to say
about this video?”
“Grandpa, I…” Faith still couldn’t find the right words. She had said those things; she couldn’t deny it. Could she claim it was an Al deepfake?
Wait, maybe that could work…
Just as she was about to try that excuse, Solomon spoke, his voice calm and steady. “Grandpa, you can’t trust the word of someone like Draven, a man who would harm his own brother. Haskell has misunderstood me. I didn’t kidnap Draven. Draven came to me for help. He said he had made a terrible mistake and that Haskell would never forgive him, so he
asked me to save his life.”
“He offered to help me in the competition to become the Palmer family heir. Grandpa, as you know, as your grandson, I could not remain indifferent to that position. When the opportunity presented itself, I took it. I brought Draven with me, thinking that his knowledge of Haskell could provide me with valuable information to gain an advantage.”
Solomon’s voice was firm as he concluded, “As for Haskell’s claim that I intended to lure him to Africa and kill him, that is pure fantasy. No matter how much I want to be the heir, I would never stoop to the level of fratricide, unlike Draven.”
Listening to Solomon’s self–righteous speech, Larissa scoffed internally. He was certainly more cunning than Draven. He hadn’t denied taking Draven, but had instead admitted his own ambition, while simultaneously denying any murderous intent.
His explanation would likely seem plausible to Zoltan. After all, Zoltan himself had set the three–month deadline, tacitly encouraging competition. As long as no one was actually killed, he would probably choose to overlook the transgressions of his own grandson.
Faith, hearing her brother’s explanation, quickly jumped in. “Grandpa, I only said those things because Haskell had kidnapped me and was threatening my brother. I was a try! And…”

Larissa hadn’t realized Haskell had been recording either. But now

she had the perfect justification for poisoning Faith, even if Zoltan found out.
With that thought, Larissa shrugged, a look of casual indifference on her face.
“Alright, Faith, I admit it. I poisoned you. But after you and Solomon schemed against my fiancé, do you really think I was out of line?”
“How dare you ask if you were out of line?” Faith screamed, losing her composure. As a Palmer, she was used to being untouchable. No one had ever provoked her like this. In all her years, only Larissa had ever been able to push her to this point. “Who the hell do you think you are, poisoning me?”
