Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 499
Chapter 499
“Has Honora contacted you, bro?” Leopold asked after their mother had left the room.
Finley looked up from his phone. “She did. Just a little while ago.”
Leopold frowned.
“I told her to leave you alone.” He paused. “What did she want this time? Complaining that her father is about to beat her to death again? I knew she was lying. If she were really in that much danger, she wouldn’t be able to text you.”
Just then, the female employee replied.
[I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think your sister has found a director yet.]
Finley breathed a sigh of relief.
[Okay, thank you.]
Her reply was instantaneous:
[You’re welcome, Mr. Judson. I’d do anything for you.]
Finley didn’t respond. He knew what she was implying. Even when he was CEO of Starlight Media, he had noticed the way she looked at him, though she had always been too nervous to approach him. Now that he had fallen from grace, she had suddenly found her courage. Did she think he was now within her reach?
He didn’t care what she thought. He was only using her to get information about Larissa. What mattered was that Larissa hadn’t found a replacement for Benedict yet. He still had a chance.
Leopold, seeing his brother occupied, took out his own phone. He wasn’t messaging anyone; he was looking at Larissa’s Facebook. She had posted again today.
[So tired today. I accidentally fell asleep in the car on the way home, and Dad waited a whole hour for me without waking me up. Sobbing. The best dad in the world~]
Leopold could feel the happiness radiating from the post. He felt a pang of envy, wishing he could be the one to do such things for his sister. But he had lost that chance.
After a long moment of hesitation, he liked the post. He then switched back to his messages, staring at the empty chat window with Larissa. He still couldn’t bring himself to send her a message. Soon, he told himself. He would find the right moment to reconnect with her.
That evening, the Palmer Manor was quiet, like a sleeping giant.
In the study, under the soft, warm light, Haskell sat across from his grandfather, Zoltan Palmer, a chessboard between them.
Zoltan placed a piece on the board and slowly looked up. “I hear you sent your father to an asylum.”
His voice was deep and commanding.

Haskell’s expression was unreadable. “Yes,” he said flatly.
Zoltan’s sharp eyes searched his grandson’s face. “Why? Because he brought his illegitimate. daughter home?”
The question implied that while the act deserved punishment, confining his father to an asylum was
an overreaction.
“No,” Haskell replied simply.
Zoltan’s brow furrowed. “Then what was it?”
Haskell’s gaze was as calm and steady as a still lake. “Because Draven is not my biological brother.”
The piece in Zoltan’s hand froze mid–air. “Are you certain?”
