The Throne of Thorns Novel Chapter 255

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 255

“Mr. Zoltan, did you say Zendar is a guest tonight? Are you sure?”

Zoltan was displeased by the question. “My grandson Haskell gave me the guest list himself. Are you suggesting he would lie to me?”

“That’s not what I meant…” Paxton quickly apologized, realizing his anxiety had made him overstep. He then turned to Haskell. “So, you were the one who invited Zendar, Mr. Palmer?”

Haskell, knowing exactly what was making Paxton so anxious, smiled leisurely. “Not me. Larissa was the one who put Zendar on the list.”

The blood drained from Paxton’s face, and he nearly stumbled. Finley quickly steadied his father, having never seen him so rattled.

Paxton pushed his son away, trying to compose himself, only to meet Larissa’s mocking

gaze.

So, not only did Larissa know the Schwartz family’s heir, she was also on speaking terms with the family’s true patriarch, Zendar.

No. He wouldn’t believe it until he saw Zendar with his own eyes. This had to be one of her tricks to intimidate him. That girl was far too cunning.

Larissa found Paxton’s struggle amusing. “Why the long face, Uncle Paxton? Zendar is coming to my party tonight. You’ll get to see him without having to jump through hoops. You should be happy.”

Her pointed mockery made Paxton flush with anger, but he couldn’t express it in front of

the Palmers.

“If Zendar truly is attending your engagement party, then of course we are grateful to you, Larissa,” Finley interjected. “But let’s confirm he actually shows up first. I’d hate for you to find out your influence isn’t as great as you imagine.”

Larissa scoffed. “I get it. You won’t believe it until you see it. Fine. When Zendar arrives, I’ll personally introduce you. I’m sure he’ll be very interested to hear all about your family’s honorable deeds.”

Honora then spoke up softly. “Larissa, today is your and Haskell’s engagement party. There’s no need for such sharp words. We’re all family here. It’s one thing to vent a little amongst ourselves, but please refrain from doing so in front of the guests. We shouldn’t air our dirty laundry in public.”

Larissa laughed coldly. “You, an adopted daughter who was swapped at birth by a scheming mother, are standing here pretending to be a Judson. That’s the biggest

scandal of all. What other dirty laundry could we possibly have to hide?”

Avril couldn’t help but let out a snort of laughter. First, she got to see Larissa handle Garrick, and now she was shutting down this fake angel. It was incredibly satisfying.

Larissa glanced at Avril, noting that as the daughter of the neutral Harriett, she was so far the only one who showed no hostility. As long as Avril stayed out of things, she would leave her be.

Honora was left speechless.

Finley took Honora’s hand, his voice firm. “To us, Honora is family, not a scandal!”

Honora looked up at him, her eyes filled with gratitude.

Paxton, wanting to escape the conversation and call Josette, said, “Mr. Zoltan, we’ll head over to the banquet hall and see if there’s anything we can help with.”
