The Throne of Thorns Novel Chapter 240

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 240

Chapter 240

She feigned a shiver. “What am I going to do? I’m so scared. Haskell, you have to protect

me.”

Haskell nearly choked on a laugh. He looked at her with pure affection. “I would love to protect you, but I’m afraid you won’t give me the chance.”

Larissa sighed dramatically. “I know. It’s a shame none of them can put up a decent fight. They never even make it past me.’

Her gaze fell on the file Haskell had been reading. “What’s that?”

“The investigation into Valeria’s kidnapping is complete,” Haskell said, setting the file aside. He glanced down at his legs, which had nearly been crippled in the incident, a dark light in his eyes. “It was Draven and Valeria, just as we thought. Thatch wasn’t directly involved, but he likely knew about the plan and approved it.”

Larissa understood. The two of them were finished.

“It doesn’t matter if Draven is my real brother or not. Conspiring with Valeria to have me kidnapped crossed a line. I won’t let him get away with it. How far I go depends on Crispin’s final report. If he’s Thatch’s illegitimate son, I’ll do more than just break his legs. I’ll make sure he lives a life of misery.”

“And if he is your brother?” Larissa asked.

Haskell looked out the window. “My mother died because of him. She wouldn’t want me to be merciless with my own flesh and blood. I’ll find a deserted island and put him there. He’ll live out the rest of his days without his freedom, waiting to die.”

A fitting punishment.

“It looks like our engagement party is going to be even more eventful than we thought,” Larissa said, picking up a needle and inserting it into an acupoint near Haskell’s knee.

After leaving the hospital, Draven walked to a nearby trash can and smashed the lunch box on the ground. It shattered, sending food and soup spilling onto the pavement.

His phone rang. He gave the broken container one last angry kick before answering.

“Did Haskell agree to the million?” Thatch’s anxious voice came through the line.

“No,” Draven said flatly. “He said your reason wasn’t good enough.”

“That bastard!” Thatch swore. “If we don’t get that money, Valeria will be discharged! Her injuries aren’t as bad as Haskell’s, she can still walk, but she’s a young woman. We can’t let her walk with a limp for the rest of her life!”

“Dad, I know. I’m just as worried as you are,” Daven said. “Tell Valeria to sell her designer bags. She has so many, she should be able to get a million for them. They’re useless to her now anyway.”

“I suppose that’s our only option for now,” Thatch sighed.

After hanging up, Draven’s face was a mask of cold fury. He got into his car but didn’t start it, sitting in the driver’s seat and forcing himself to calm down.

Once the fire in his chest had subsided, he picked up his phone. He called Honora.

It rang for a while before she answered, her voice soft and gentle.

“Draven, what can I do for you?”

“Let’s meet. We need to talk about how to deal with Larissa at the engagement party tomorrow. I know you’ll be interested,” Draven said, then waited for her reply.

There was a pause on the other end of the line

“Alright,” Honora finally said.
