Oh, right. She’d forgotten to block him.
Larissa typed back a single word without expression [Idiot!]
Then she blocked his number.
Back in the west villa, Vivica paced furiously. “Neville and Sapphira have some nerve! They actually think they can take our daughter!”
Paxton sat down beside her and lit a cigarette. “No matter what, we cannot let her be adopted by them.”
Honora, standing behind them, kept her face impassive, but her eyes darkened.
It was Leopold who spoke up. “Dad, Mom, you didn’t want Honora to leave, right? If she wants to be adopted by Uncle and Aunt, just let her. Why are you fighting it?”
“We can disown her if we want, but that doesn’t mean Neville and Sapphira get to pick her up like some stray!” Vivica fumed.
“She’s basically trash anyway,” Leopold said dismissively. “Let them have her. It’s like they’re taking out the garbage for us. You saw what she was like today. Acting all high and mighty just because she has Judson blood. If she actually moved in, she’d turn this house upside down.”
Paxton looked at Honora. “Honora, you saw your grandpa’s attitude today. He cares more about his biological granddaughter than he does about you, no matter how accomplished you are.”
Honora bit her lip and nodded meekly. “I saw.”
“Originally, since Neville and Sapphira have no children, the family fortune would have gone to you. three,” Paxton explained. “Even though you’re not our biological daughter, we would never have treated you unfairly. But if our real daughter officially becomes theirs, the inheritance is no longer certain. That’s why your mother and I are against it. It’s not because we don’t care about you.”
“I know, Dad,” Honora said.
Leopold was still unconcerned, “Grandpa would never give her any of the inheritance”
Vivica knew her son’s weak spot was his sister. “Even if it’s not about the money, you have to consider the marriage to Haskell. Are you really going to let Honora marry a disabled man?”
At that, Leopold fell silent. That was the main reason they had brought Larissa back–to take Honora’s place in the marriage alliance with the Palmer family. After today’s disaster, getting her to agree would be difficult
“Your mother is right,” Paxton said. “We know you and Honora are close and you don’t want to see her suffer. We feel the same way. But from now on, you have to at least pretend to care about your real sister. Get her to acknowledge you as her brother Only then can we convince her to marry Haskell in Honora’s place and fulfill the alliance”
Leopold was quiet for a moment before nodding “Dad, Mom, I know what to do.”
