The Throne of Thorns Novel Chapter 9

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 9

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 9 Summary

In this chapter, Honora is overwhelmed with guilt and sorrow, apologizing repeatedly to Larissa for the pain caused by her mother’s actions. Despite Honora’s heartfelt apology and emotional display, Larissa responds with sarcasm and mockery, expressing deep resentment toward Honora and the family for protecting her. Larissa accuses her mother of having stolen twenty years of her life and feels betrayed by the family’s acceptance of Honora.

Leopold tries to defend Honora, angered by Larissa’s harshness, but Vivica and Paxton struggle with their own feelings toward Larissa, finding her difficult to handle compared to the gentle Honora. Paxton insists that Honora cannot be cast out after all she has endured, emphasizing that the family is large enough to accommodate her without conflict. Larissa, however, remains unyielding, demanding that either she or Honora must leave the house.

The tension escalates as Leopold firmly supports Honora, promising she will never be forced to leave the Judson family. Larissa challenges this, implying that if Honora stays, she must go. Vivica attempts to mediate, urging Larissa to accept Honora by getting to know her better, but the conflict between the sisters and the family’s divided loyalties remains unresolved, leaving the household in a cold and uneasy standoff.

Leopold was speechless, a flicker of guilt crossing his face. But just as quickly, Honora’s sobs grew louder.

“I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. It’s my fault I have a mother like that. Sister, if you hate me, you can hit me, you can yell at me, but please don’t blame Leopold…”

With that, she pulled her hand from Leopold’s grasp and, biting her lip with a look of grim resolve, took a few small steps toward Larissa.

“Honora!” Leopold panicked, rushing to follow her.

When she reached Larissa, Honora made a show of falling to her knees, but Leopold caught her just

in time.

“Honora, what are you doing? I told you, it’s not your fault! It’s your mother’s fault!”

Watching the scene unfold, Larissa burst out laughing again and began to applaud sarcastically.

“Clap. Clap. Clap.”

“This is good. Really good. Are you two putting on a melodrama for me?”

Seeing how impervious she was, Leopold’s fleeting guilt vanished. He helped Honora up and stared coldly at Larissa. “Why are you so unreasonable? Honora has sincerely apologized to you, and still you mock her!”

“I’m not just mocking her; I’m mocking all of you,” Larissa retorted. “She has a conniving mother who switched us so she could have a better life, stealing twenty years from me. And now that I’m back, you, my supposed parents and brother, are protecting her right in front of me. I must have the worst luck in the world to end up with a family like you.”

Leopold’s expression grew even darker.

Vivica looked helplessly at her husband. She had no idea how to handle this stubborn, unyielding daughter of hers. Honestly, whether emotionally or rationally, she simply couldn’t bring herself to like the girl.

Paxton, who had been silent until now, finally spoke. “That’s enough, Larissa. Honora’s mother has been brought to justice. Honora is now all alone. Your mother and I raised her for twenty years; we can’t just throw her out. The Judson family is vast. Letting her stay is as simple as adding another fork to the table. She won’t get in your way.”

Larissa was unconvinced. “If it’s just a matter of another fork, you can support her anywhere. Why does she have to stay here, a constant, galling reminder of the miserable life I led because of her?”

Paxton’s patience wore thin. He hadn’t expected his daughter to be so defiant. Like his wife, his resentment toward her grew. Compared to the obedient and gentle Honora, their biological daughter was desperately in need of discipline.

Honora bit her lip, tears streaming down her face, her silent suffering making her look all the more pitiable.

Seeing Larissa’s relentless attacks, Leopold exploded. “So what you’re saying is, you won’t stay unless we send Honora away?”

Larissa nodded. “That’s right. This house has room for me or for her. Not both.”

The atmosphere turned frigid.

“Dad, Mom, Leopold, I don’t want to leave you,” Honora whispered, her voice choked with tears. Her sorrowful expression was heartbreaking.

Leopold held her hand tightly. “Honora, don’t worry. You’re not going anywhere! As long as I’m alive, I will never let you leave the Judson family! You will always be my sister, a daughter of this house!”

Larissa raised an eyebrow. “So if she’s not leaving, does that mean I am?”

Vivica’s patience had reached its limit, but she managed one last attempt at persuasion. “Larissa, you’ve just come back. You don’t know Honora yet. She is kind and considerate. Once you get to know her, you’ll grow to accept her. Her staying here won’t threaten your position. After all, you are our biological daughter.”
