“That’s not necessary; I won’t get lost.” 

“But…” 

“I’ll be fine, Cassian, so don’t worry.” 

Maya started to walk away and said, 

“I’ll be back in time for dinner. See you soon.” 

“Be careful.” 

“I always am.” 

Maya tore a magical scroll and vanished into thin air. When she arrived in the city, she went to a tavern, where she met her brother Barto. 

“Why have you taken so long, Maya?” 

“I’m not going back.” 

“What?” 

“I said I’m not going back with you. When you return, I want you to tell Father.” 

“He ordered you to return.” 

“I know, but I have to do this, brother.” 

“You have no obligation to anyone, Maya.” 

Barto reached out his hand to Maya and said, 

“Come on, we have to go back home.” 

Maya ignored her brother’s hand, headed to the door, and before crossing the threshold, Barto took her hand and said, 

“You know you can’t go to the realm of the fairies. If you do, you may never return; it’s too dangerous.” 

“Even so, I plan to go. Nothing you say will change my mind.”
