Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash ` 305
Chapter 305
She had a feeling it wasn’t that simple.
Charlotte didn’t seem like the type to be tied down by social
conventions.
“Do you know anything about what Charlotte’s been through
these past few years?
Did something happen to her?”
“Not much. I’ve already had someone look into it.”
“Then I guess we’ll just have to wait for news.”
“Wait? Easy for you to say.”
Bradley pointed to the dark circles under his eyes, looking at
Madeleine in exasperation. “Do I look like I can just wait
patiently?”
Madeleine figured he had a point.
She had to cure Bradley of this heartache.
Chapter 305
She had to. Roderick had told her that Bradley kept coming to
him for comfort whenever he had a spare moment.
Roderick was already busy with work; he didn’t have time to be
Bradley’s love guru.
“The first thing we need to do right now is to figure one thing
out.”
“What’s that?”
“Whether Charlotte actually likes you or not.”
Bradley rolled his eyes. “Why don’t you just ask her yourself,
then?”
If he could have figured that out, he would have done it already.
“Heh heh heh, that’s where I, the master strategist, come in.
Don’t worry, leave it to me.”
After they finished talking, Roderick and Kevin came over. The
family of three, plus Bradley, got in the car and headed out.
Roderick and Madeleine’s birthday gift was a set of custom-
made traditional Chinese–style furniture.
Ever since Mr. Whitman found out Owen had a traditional

courtyard house, he never said anything, but he was actually
very envious.
So for his birthday, they decided to make his wish come true.
Rebecca bought an old house with a courtyard, Roderick and
Madeleine took care of the furniture, and Bradley, with his many
connections, hunted down some rare decorations and antiques.
At their age, they knew just how important it was to make their
elders happy.
The greatest fear in life is wanting to care for your parents
when they are no longer around.
Roderick had found this custom workshop a few months ago.
The master craftsmen were all master artisans of cultural
heritage, and their skill was far beyond the quality you’d find on
the market.
Months later, stepping inside again, they were enveloped by the
rich, heavy scent of wood that greeted them.
Unlike the semi–finished pieces they saw last time, what was on
display now were the completed works.
The master craftsman, with the unique pride and satisfaction of
Chapter 305
an artisan for his work, smiled and led them forward for a closer
look.
With just one glance, Madeleine couldn’t help but hold her
breath.
The Siamese Rosewood revealed its true charm, aged to
perfection. Its color was magnificent, with black grains on a
deep red base, like an ink wash landscape painting, full of
scholarly character.
The artisan tea table to the side was carved with intricate
patterns that looked incredibly lifelike.
Madeleine looked at it, unable to tear her eyes away.
“This is just too beautiful.”
Looking at them, she had only one thought.
Hmm… I should probably ask the craftsman about his schedule,
to see if he can rush another set. Otherwise, Owen will definitely
want one when he sees this.
Roderick, however, misunderstood her thoughts. He put his arm
around her shoulder and asked softly, “You like it?
Chapter 305
We can get a set too. I saw a nice old house in the East District
last time, and the price was right.”
Madeleine’s eyes widened when she heard that.
The East District… a historical preservation area. The old
houses there are astronomically expensive.
Even though I know your business is booming lately, Roderick,
that’s not how we should be spending our money.
She quickly shot him an annoyed glance.
“Stop spending money recklessly. We should be saving. We still
have to pay for our son’s college education in the future.”
The mischievous Kevin peeked over at them.
“You don’t have to, Mommy. I can earn my own tuition.”
“Oh, Kev, how can you earn tuition when you’re so little?”
“I can.”
Kevin tilted his head, thinking.
“Huh, Mommy, don’t you know I have money?”
Chapter 305
Her previous memories hadn’t fully returned, so Madeleine was
still unclear about many of the details.
Hearing this, she just turned to look at Roderick with a puzzled
expression.
Roderick chuckled. “Yeah, all his lucky money prizes and lucky money from birth until now, I opened an account and just
tossed it into the stock market.”
Madeleine pondered for a moment.
“So… how much is there?”
Roderick thought for a moment, then said tactfully, “As long as he’s not too extravagant, even if he never works or goes to
school and just loafs around for the rest of his life, he probably
won’t be able to spend it all.”
