Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash ` 214
“I’ve only been away from the Whitman group for a few days,
how is it already a mess? This won’t do. Madeleine, sit here for
a bit, I need to make a call.”
“Okay, go ahead.”
Rebecca got up and went outside. Madeleine sat there, bored,
her mind replaying the contents of that document.
She couldn’t help it and started smiling again.
With that thought, she took out her phone and sent Roderick a
Facebook message.
Madeleine: Ricki, it’s so great being married to you. I want to
marry you in the next life too.
The message went unanswered for a long time. Madeleine
rested her chin on her hand and waited for a bit, then casually
opened a silly In–app mini–game.
Little did she know that on the other end, Roderick was staring
at his phone, completely frozen and unable to move.
Chapter 214
Gerry was with Roderick, inspecting a local factory. A large
crowd of people followed behind them, holding their breath and waiting for the big boss’s instructions.
All of a sudden, the big boss stopped in his tracks, silent and
looking stern.
This scared everyone on site.
“Oh no, is the CEO not happy with our work?”
“I told you. Our production capacity only increased by 150%,
which is nowhere near the CEO’s expectations.”
“Manager… our growth rate is already number one in the industry, and the CEO is still not satisfied?”
“That’s nothing. You have no idea how capable the CEO is.”
The whispers from behind continued, so Gerry glanced back
and leaned in to ask:
“CEO, is there a problem?”
Roderick raised a hand, signaling him to be quiet, then took out
his phone and replied to a message.
Chapter 214
He only turned back after he was done sending it.
The few people who had just been muttering immediately stood
straight and serious, not daring to breathe.
“That’s all for today’s inspection.”
“That’s… that’s all?
Mr. Livingston, is there something you’re not satisfied with? We
can…”
“No.”
Roderick said, a faint, unexpected smile appearing on his face.
“You all have tomorrow off. Go home early and spend time with
your families.”
The people below looked at each other, then quickly snapped
out of it.
So, not only did they pass the inspection, but they also got a day off!
?
Who said the big boss was bad? This big boss is great!
Chapter 214
Gerry spoke quietly from behind, “CEO, I…”
Roderick glanced at him.
“You want a day off too?”
Gerry gave a dry laugh, “I still have a week of my annual leave
left.”
“No.”
Roderick refused without a second thought. Gerry’s smile froze,
and the next second he heard:
“The bid presentation is tomorrow. After the dust settles, I’ll
give you a week of paid leave. Wherever you want to go, I’ll
personally cover the flights and accommodations.”
After saying that, Roderick had already turned and left.
Gerry was stunned by this incredible news, dazed for a long
while before he could process it.
He took a deep breath and muttered:
“I know who he was texting just now…”
Meanwhile, Madeleine was playing a little game when a
Chapter 214
message from Roderick came in.
Roderick: Not just the next life, but for all of eternity, our lives
and deaths intertwined.
When Madeleine saw this edgy line, she felt both embarrassed
and a little sweet.
She turned her phone over. Tucked inside the case was a photo
of her and Roderick from their last trip to the amusement park.
Such a handsome Ricki. It would have been great if they had
gotten together earlier when they were kids.
After daydreaming for a while, Madeleine realized Rebecca
hadn’t come back yet.
She silently admired Rebecca a little more in her heart.
She’s the real career woman. I need to learn from her!
The dishes started arriving one after another, and only then did
Rebecca come back and sit down, looking annoyed.
“I don’t know what happened, but a few new policies just came down from the higher–ups. I have to go back to the office
tomorrow.”
Chapter 214
“Policies?
Are they favorable or unfavorable?”
“Favorable.”
Rebecca said so, but she didn’t look happy about it.
“Isn’t that a good thing? Then why aren’t you happy?”
“Our company’s research team is falling behind. I heard our
competitor is paying big money for foreign experts, and it’s
making me anxious.”
Madeleine’s mouth fell open slightly.
“Oh… no wonder you were so… about Professor Shaw before…”
Before she could finish, she noticed that whenever she brought
him up, Rebecca’s expression would subtly change.
Madeleine was perceptive, so she dropped it.
But fate had arrived, and there was no escaping it.
As they were eating, the dinner rush began, and the restaurant started to fill up.
