Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash `195
Chapter 195
Rebecca waved her hand, “I didn’t drink, so I can take him. And
while he’s drunk, I can try to get some information out of him.”
It was then that Madeleine remembered Rebecca’s original goal
was to poach him, which was why she’d approached Professor
Shaw.
Sigh, that’s my career–driven Rebecca.
After saying he forgave Madeleine and getting in the car,
Roderick still couldn’t resist bringing up the past.
He wrapped his arm around the back of Madeleine’s neck, his
thumb and forefinger circling to caress her chin.
After drinking, Roderick’s eyes became even darker and deeper
than usual.
He just stared at Madeleine, his expression unreadable, not
saying a word.
Madeleine felt a little uncomfortable under his gaze. “Why are

you looking at me like that?”
“You’re beautiful. I want to keep looking.”
“You…”
Madeleine felt embarrassed and glanced at Mathew driving in
the front.
Someone else is here. What’s gotten into this guy?
To her surprise, Mathew just gave a knowing smile and pressed
a button in the car.
Instantly, a partition rose up between the back seat and the
driver’s area, separating the two spaces.
Madeleine’s eyes widened in surprise.
She had only ever seen something like this in short–form web
series!
Roderick grabbed her chin, forcing Madeleine to look only at him. She winced and turned to look at him reproachfully.
“What are you doing?”
Madeleine mumbled, but the tips of her ears secretly turned

red.
Roderick’s thumb gently brushed across her lips, his voice low,
“Your eyes were glued to Adrian just now.”
“I was just watching the drama unfold!”
Madeleine anxiously grabbed his wrist, trying to explain, “You
know that…”
But Roderick gave her no chance to speak, leaning in and kissing her.
The kiss carried a faint scent of alcohol, forceful and
undeniable. Madeleine was pressed against the seat by him, her entire being enveloped in his presence.
At first, Madeleine was annoyed, wondering if he was being too
petty.
But as they kissed, she noticed a glint of cunning in Roderick’s
eyes.
“Mmph!”
Madeleine’s eyes widened, unable to resist.
He was doing this on purpose, just looking for an excuse to kiss

her!
Meanwhile, at the hotel entrance.
Rebecca and Adrian came out together, keeping a careful
distance from each other.
When they reached the entrance, Rebecca finally spoke,
“Professor Shaw, the car keys.”
“Huh?
Oh, one moment.”
Adrian’s reaction was clearly much slower; he hesitated for a
while before making any move.
It was like he was conducting an experiment, needing to
confirm all the data was correct before proceeding.
Fumbling the keys out of his pocket, Adrian handed them to Rebecca, their fingers brushing against each other.
As if shocked, they both pulled back at the same time.
The keys fell to the ground.
Chapter 195
“Sorry…”
Adrian said, bending down to pick them up.
But the alcohol hit him, and he staggered, unable to keep his
balance.
“Professor Shaw!”
Rebecca was startled and quickly helped him stand steady.
“Don’t move, don’t move. I’ll get it.”
She held Adrian’s arm with one hand and bent down to pick up
the keys with the other.
She didn’t dare let go, so she just kept supporting him.
She had been a little unsure before, but now she could see that
Adrian was really a bit drunk.
Including what he drank earlier, Adrian had downed over a
pound of Vodka.
Not to mention he had chugged half a pound with Mr. Reid in
one go. No matter how high his tolerance was, he couldn’t
handle being forced to drink like that.
Chapter 195
“Let me help you, Professor Shaw. I’ll take you home first.”
“No need. You go on ahead. Just call… call a designated driver
for me.”
“How could I do that? I have to get you home first. Let’s go.”
As she supported him, most of Adrian’s weight pressed down
on her.
Luckily, Rebecca worked out and was strong, otherwise, it
would have been a real struggle.
After finally getting him into the passenger seat, Rebecca was
covered in sweat.
She let out a long sigh and walked around to the driver’s seat.
“Professor Shaw, I still don’t know your address.”
Adrian leaned back against the seat and gave her an address.
It was a high–end apartment near the lab.
Rebecca nodded and was about to start the car when a beeping
sound reminded her that Adrian hadn’t fastened his seatbelt.
“Professor Shaw?
Chapter 195
Seatbelt.”
“Mmm…”
Adrian wearily lifted his eyelids and reached over with his left hand, fumbling a few times without finding the seatbelt.
Rebecca sighed in resignation. “Let me do it.”
She leaned over, quickly pulling the seatbelt across. Although
they were close, nothing inappropriate happened.
Halfway through the drive, Adrian spoke in a low voice, “I’m
sorry.”
“For what?”
