Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash `190
Chapter 190
Roderick shook his head, “Even I just found out. Adrian keeps
things close to his chest.”
Madeleine could sense from Roderick’s words that he was
enjoying the drama.
She couldn’t help but smile.
Sometimes, Ricki was a lot like her.
When Adrian finished his speech to thunderous applause,
Madeleine looked all around but couldn’t see Rebecca.
“Where’s Rebecca?”
“She’s just an assistant, you wouldn’t see her on stage.”
As he spoke, Roderick grabbed Madeleine’s hand and stood up.
“Come on, I’ll take you backstage to find her.”
Rebecca was indeed backstage, organizing the speeches from
the various guest speakers.
Chapter 190
Suddenly, someone tapped her on the shoulder from behind,
and she thought it was Adrian, who had just come off stage.
“Professor Shaw, you…”
Before she could finish, Rebecca’s eyes widened in horror at the
two people in front of her.
“What are you two doing here!
?”
This couple, are they haunting me or what?
Madeleine held Roderick’s arm, trying not to laugh as she
looked Rebecca’s outfit up and down.
She was dressed like a schoolgirl, with a pair of large, black-
framed glasses on her nose.
Her palm–sized face was now more than half–covered.
And her makeup was different from usual, too.
If Roderick and Madeleine hadn’t known Rebecca so well,
Madeleine would never have recognized her just now.
“Rebecca, are you getting into cosplay?”
Chapter 190
“What cosplay.”
Rebecca rolled her eyes and held up the work badge hanging
around her neck for them to see.
“I’m here to work!”
“Right, right, to work with your Professor Shaw. I get it.”
Rebecca felt a little embarrassed and was about to raise her
voice to argue when she caught a glimpse of a figure
approaching.
Worried that Madeleine and the others would say something
crazy, she quickly called out, “Professor Shaw!”
Adrian’s gaze first swept over Rebecca, then landed on
Roderick and Madeleine.
He stepped forward and nodded at Roderick.
“Mr. Livingston, I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Professor Shaw.”
The two men shook hands politely.
“And this is Mrs. Livingston?”
Chapter 190
“Yes.”
Madeleine quickly extended her hand. “Hello, Professor Shaw. I
just listened to your presentation, it was very insightful.”
Adrian nodded, knowing Madeleine’s words were just a
courtesy. Their fingers only touched briefly in a polite gesture.
Roderick subtly moved half a step closer to Madeleine,
conveniently putting some distance between her and Adrian.
The corner of his mouth lifted slightly, his tone carrying the
usual business pleasantries: “Professor Shaw’s report was
indeed brilliant, especially the analysis of investment prospects
in the biopharmaceutical field.”
A glint appeared in Adrian’s eyes behind his glasses as he casually glanced at Rebecca, who was standing to the side
pretending to organize her files:
“You’re too kind, Mr. Livingston. I hear your company has also
been making moves in the medical Al field recently?”
The two men exchanged pleasantries, the atmosphere
seemingly harmonious but with an undercurrent of tension.
It was the aura of powerful men clashing head–on.
Chapter 190
They chatted for a bit, and when an industry report came up,
Adrian turned around.
“Rebecca, hand me the file you organized.”
Rebecca?
Madeleine’s lips uncontrollably wanted to curve into a smile.
Calling her so intimately, and they still say it’s nothing? She
didn’t believe it for a second.
With that thought, Madeleine feigned surprise and said, “Is this
Professor Shaw’s girlfriend?
Oh my, I saw the work badge earlier and thought she was a
staff member. My apologies.”
The documents in Rebecca’s hands almost fell to the floor.
Her eyes widened as she stared at Madeleine in horror.
What is she doing? Isn’t she trying to get me in trouble on
purpose?
!
Rebecca came over with the documents, about to explain, but
Chapter 190
Adrian spoke first:
“She’s not a staff member. She’s here with me to learn a few
things.”
Now that… was a very interesting thing to say:
Madeleine raised an eyebrow, giving Rebecca another look that
was half–smile, half–smirk.
He didn’t deny she was his girlfriend~
He only said she wasn’t a staff member~
That strong sense of being family… I ship it, I totally ship it.
Just as they were talking, the event organizer came over, saying
they wanted to invite Adrian and Roderick to have dinner after
the event.
The two men were hesitating, but then Roderick caught
Madeleine’s little expression of wanting to watch the drama
unfold and was the first to accept.
Then he looked at Adrian with a somewhat apologetic
expression.
“Professor Shaw, if you don’t have any other plans, I was
Chapter 190
wondering if you could bring this… lady with you. My wife rarely
attends these kinds of events, and she’d be more comfortable
with another woman around.”
Hearing this, Madeleine was so excited she wanted to clap.
Brilliant, just brilliant. That Roderick really knows what he’s
doing.
