Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 187
Rebecca: ?
?
?
So this is why you left work early?
?
Bradley: Wait, who is this? Did your account get hacked?
Bradley: Nice. With her face covered up like that, no one would
even know if you got a new wife.
Teresa: Daquan forever!
Sophia: Forever!
…
It was a rare moment of family time. The family of three was talking and laughing, and even the waiters who came to serve
the food couldn’t help but discuss it among themselves.
Chapter 187
“This family seems so close.”
“No kidding. If I were born into a family this rich, with parents
who are drop–dead gorgeous, I can’t even imagine how cheerful
and outgoing I’d be as a little girl.”
“Same here.”
After the meal, the restaurant had thoughtfully prepared a show
and some parent–child activities.
Roderick wasn’t originally interested in this kind of thing, but he
turned his head and saw Madeleine and Kevin had already
stood up.
He lowered his head and chuckled softly.
What could he do? He’d go with them. It’s not embarrassing to
bend your principles for the people you love.
In the center of the restaurant, the host was livening up the
atmosphere, and many parents with their children came over to
sit down.
Madeleine would occasionally lean down to whisper something
to Kevin. You could tell they were both very happy with the
restaurant.
Chapter 187
The music started, and a short performance began on the
stage.
Madeleine was just getting into it when her phone rang.
It was an unknown number.
She declined it, but a moment later, the call came back
persistently.
What’s going on?
“Roderick.”
Madeleine poked his arm. “I’m going to step out and take a
call.”
Roderick considered it for a moment, then gave a slight nod, his
eyes following her as she walked away.
Madeleine walked out to the hallway outside the restaurant and
answered the phone.
“Hello?”
Her tone was a little wary.
Jason’s cold laugh came from the other end of the line. “Guess
Chapter 187
who.”
Madeleine’s nerves tensed instantly. “Jason?
How did you get my number?”
“Tsk, you really underestimate my abilities. What’s so hard
about looking up a number here?”
After he spoke, his mocking laughter came through the phone
again.
“And not only that, I have to say, you’ve really impressed me
now.”
Madeleine felt annoyed and wanted to hang up.
But the person on the other end kept rambling:
“Look at you. Your family went bankrupt, and when someone
finally wants you, you have to go chase after Edward. Does he
even like you? And you’re still chasing him?”
Madeleine narrowed her eyes.
Is this guy’s information a little out of date?
He switched to a charitable tone.
Chapter 187
“Since Edward doesn’t want you, why not be with me?
At least I know how to treat a woman better than Roderick.”
He seemed to be fantasizing about something, his tone turning
vulgar and disgusting.
“Please me, and I might rent you those two office floors for
cheap.”
Madeleine rolled her eyes to the heavens.
“Jason, oh Jason, did you get high abroad these past few days?
Fried your brain?
Do you even know what you’re saying?”
“Of course.”
He let out a malicious, low laugh. “Name your price. Come over
tonight.”
“You listen to me.”
Madeleine, looking utterly speechless, cursed at him under her
breath:
“My husband and I are doing great. If you’re itching to be the
Chapter 187
mistress, why don’t you go find some rich old ladies to please?
The Klein Family isn’t some top–tier dynasty, is it?”
She tutted. “Why don’t you use the tricks you learned abroad to
serve those rich ladies, make some quick cash, and stop
spreading dirty rumors about people when you have nothing
better to do!”
“You…”
“You what? You can’t even speak a proper sentence. What did
your parents teach you? If I catch you calling me again, you’ll be
sorry.”
Madeleine spoke rapidly, firing off a barrage of words, and
Jason hadn’t even processed it by the time she hung up.
She blocked his number without a second thought and finally
let out a long sigh of relief.
“Who was that on the phone?”
Roderick was already standing behind her, holding her coat.
Madeleine put her phone away, her expression unchanged. “It’s
nothing. Just some piece of trash.”
Chapter 187
The mood was so good, she didn’t want to tell Roderick about
Jason and disgust him too.
Roderick’s expression was gentle as he walked over and draped
the coat over her.
“It’s gotten cold.”
“It does feel a little cold.”
The next second, Roderick hugged her, and a warm feeling
instantly enveloped her.
He had heard.
That call must have been from Jason.
She said, she and her husband were doing great…
Roderick’s lips curved into a smile, his heart filled with
satisfaction.
