The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 167

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 167

Industry rumors indicated that the Livingston Group was short

on cash and wouldn’t be putting much effort into this bid.

Before, Edward might have believed it.

But now, whenever he closed his eyes, he could remember the

evasive things Madeleine had said at the party.

So, she really had fallen for someone else and was deliberately

saying those things to make him lower his guard.

So he would lower his bid without any preparation, letting the

Livingston Group swoop in and take the prize?

Edward’s fingertips tapped lightly on the desk as his expression

grew colder.

Just then, a subordinate knocked and entered.

“Sir, here are the recent financial movements of the Livingston

Group you asked for. He has indeed been privately contacting

several banks. This is the detailed report.”

Edward took it and glanced through it, a sneer flashing across

his lips, his eyes filled with the satisfaction of seeing through

the scheme.

The subordinate’s eyes were full of admiration. “Sir, you were right. This Roderick guy is trying to set a trap for us.”

“He knows how valuable this bid is. If he gets this project,

becoming an industry leader in the future won’t be difficult.”

After Edward finished speaking, a cold smile touched his lips.

“But I have no intention of letting him get his way.”

He looked up. “Notify the commerce department. Revise the bid

again. Increase the amount.”

“Increase it again?”

The subordinate was shocked. “Sir, our current budget is

already enough to cover the bid price. The Livingston Group

can’t have the resources to compete, right? If we take out another loan, the financial pressure…”

Edward let out a cold laugh. “Roderick wants to play dirty? Then

I’ll show him what absolute power looks like.”

His finger tapped heavily on the report on his desk.

“In this bid, the Carroll Group must have a crushing victory. I’ll

make sure the Livingston Group isn’t even in the running!”

After work, Edward left the office. He sat in his car for five

minutes before driving off to find Fiona.

Unfortunately, just as he arrived at the Bell Corporation building,

he saw Fiona get into a car and drive away.

Edward frowned.

Fiona hadn’t come to see him lately. Could it be she’d had a

change of heart?

On impulse, Edward drove after her.

Half an hour later, he realized something was wrong.

Fiona was going to Madeleine’s house!

Madeleine was at home reading, preparing to start her own

company. She was dressed casually, curled up on the sofa,

while Kevin, who had just finished his piano lesson, was practicing quietly beside her.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Kirsten walked over to answer the

video intercom.

“Miss Bell?

Which Miss Bell… Please wait a moment, I’ll go get the missus.”

Kirsten ran over to tell Madeleine, who was stunned for a

moment after hearing the news.

Fiona?

“Let her in.”

Madeleine put down her tablet, a pair of large, black–framed,

blue–light–blocking glasses still perched on her nose.

When Fiona came in and saw her, she didn’t even recognize her

at first.

Dressed like that, Madeleine looked just like a college student.

Fiona’s mind wandered for a couple of seconds before she

quickly snapped back.

“Miss Mosley, we meet again.”

“Come in and have a seat.”

Madeleine offered, asking Fiona what she’d like to drink.

“Just water is fine.”

“Okay.”

Madeleine padded over in her slippers to get Fiona a glass of

water.

Fiona gave her a surprised look.

She was the wife of a CEO worth hundreds of millions, after all.

Why was she getting water herself?

She looked around. On the coffee table were several finance

books and handwritten notes, next to a half–finished cup of

herbal tea.

The room was warmly decorated, filled with a sense of home.

The faint smell of cooking drifted from the kitchen, and she

could vaguely hear a nanny humming a little tune.

So this was the kind of environment Madeleine lived in.

This was completely different from the venomous femme

fatale she had imagined, the one who would do anything for

Edward.

Chapter 167

“Here, is warm water okay?”

Madeleine walked over and handed her the cup. Fiona took it; it

was neither cool nor hot, just the perfect temperature to drink.

She nodded, at a loss for words for a moment.

“So, what did you come to see me about?”

Madeleine went back and sat on the sofa, casually grabbing a

throw pillow to hug.

Fiona snapped out of her daze when she heard the question

and said in a low voice, “I’m here to apologize.”

“For what happened at the restaurant last time?”

Madeleine chuckled. “Didn’t I already say? You should be

apologizing to that lady.”

“Yes.”

She nodded. “The lady’s condition has stabilized. I made them

pay for all the expenses, and they’ve received the punishment

they deserved.”
