The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 124

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 124

Chapter 124

After she finished her statement, they could take Madeleine

home by following the procedures.

Even so, Roderick’s mood sank to rock bottom, his limbs numb.

It was his fault.

He never should have let Nanette become Kevin’s psychologist

in the first place.

If it weren’t for the professionalism she showed back then, and

the real improvement Kevin made with her, he would have never

let her stay.

He had underestimated that woman.

The interrogation room door opened, and Roderick immediately

stepped forward, his eyes filled with concern.

“Are you okay?”

Madeleine shook her head. She looked fine, but her voice was a

little hoarse.

Chapter 124

“I’m fine, don’t worry.”

It looked like she was still scared.

After all, she was just a young woman. It would be strange if

she wasn’t scared after hitting someone and being brought to

the police station.

Gerry came in from outside with a few bottles of water, quickly

twisting one open and handing it over.

“Sir, Ma’am, have some water.”

“Thanks.”

Madeleine obediently took it and chugged down several gulps.

She hadn’t felt anything just now, but after coming out, she

realized her mouth was dry and her hands and feet were cold.

“Where’s Nanette?”

She glanced around but didn’t see her.

“In the next interrogation room. The lawyer went in. I’ll have him

file a lawsuit. Don’t worry, I won’t let her get away with this.”

Roderick’s eyes darkened. His voice was gentle, but his tone

held an unquestionable firmness.

A moment later, Nanette also came out of an interrogation

room.

She didn’t look so pathetic anymore; there was even a hint of

smugness on her face.

When her eyes met Madeleine’s, Nanette spoke sharply.

“Madeleine, just wait for the court summons. I’m not just going

to let this go.”

“Fine.”

Madeleine nodded without fear, her words cold, “The same

goes for you, Dr. Clark. You’re not getting away with bullying my

son, either.”

Nanette clicked her tongue and took a few steps closer, her

eyes dancing with excitement as she neared Madeleine.

“Proof?

Without proof, that’s just slander. Besides, everyone saw you hit

me.”

When she finished speaking, she looked up at Roderick, her

eyes filled with adoration and a hint of anger.

“Mr. Livingston, I’ve been with you for two years. Do you really

believe I’d hurt Kevin?”

Roderick didn’t even spare her a glance, his lips pressed tight,

refusing to engage.

Nanette clenched her fists. “I was the one who pulled Kevin out

of that living hell. Go ask him, I’m still the person he trusts

most. How can you suspect me like this? How can you live with

yourself?”

Roderick kept his eyes on the villa, and Madeleine beside him

also averted her gaze.

The couple’s expressions were strikingly similar, treating

Nanette as if she were invisible.

She couldn’t unleash her rage, nor could she swallow it, and it

burned in her chest until her vital organs ached.

After taking several deep breaths, Nanette finally nodded.

“Fine. I never thought my sincere help would get me this in return. I’ll be waiting for you to sue me. Go ahead, sue me. Let’s

see how you do it without any evidence!”

With that, Nanette threw the words at them and stormed out.

Gerry watched her leave, feeling frustrated and unsatisfied.

“Sir, are you just going to let her walk away like that?”

Roderick’s face was grim.

Of course not, he thought. But he had to follow procedure.

Using force now would only lead to worse consequences.

The lawyer stepped forward, saying they only had two days to

gather evidence before Nanette could file an appeal.

“Two days…”

Madeleine’s voice grew heavy. “Roderick, don’t you think

Nanette seems a little too confident?”

“Yes.”

Roderick nodded. “She seems to have guessed that we don’t

have any evidence.”

Beside them, Mariah Goodwin, a lawyer who hadn’t lost a case in twenty years, adjusted her glasses. The corners of her mouth

lifted, her voice filled with unshakable confidence.

Chapter 124

“Anything that’s been done leaves a trace. We’ll find the

evidence.”

To make it easier for the lawyers and police to gather evidence,

the kindergarten announced it would be closed for a day.

Kevin came home with the kindergarten principal.

He still didn’t know what had happened. Seeing his mom and dad both at home, he was overjoyed.

“Kev, be a good boy. Can you go stay in your room with Kirsten

for a little while?”

Madeleine forced a smile, hiding all her emotions so her son

wouldn’t notice anything.

“Okay, Mommy.”

Kevin was still obedient and went straight up the stairs.

The moment he was out of sight, the principal, who had been

smiling, immediately looked down, terrified.

“Mr. Livingston, Mrs. Livingston, I never imagined it would get this bad. If I had known there was a problem with Dr. Clark, we

would have never hired her!”
