Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 120
Chapter 120
The next moment, his lips trembled, and tears started to fall.
Madeleine’s heart was racing with panic, but she tried her best
to calm herself down.
“These marks… did you do this to yourself?”
She remembered Kirsten mentioning that Kevin had a history of
self–harm.
Kevin kept his head down, tears falling one by one onto the
floor.
He shook his head, his voice as faint as a whisper, “No…”
Madeleine gently cupped his small face. “Then can you tell
Mommy how you got hurt?”
“I…”
His voice was stuck in his throat; he opened his mouth several times but couldn’t form a complete syllable.
Madeleine noticed his breathing was becoming rapid and his

chest was heaving violently–the signs of a panic attack.
Madeleine immediately pulled him into her arms, gently patting
his back. “It’s okay, Mommy’s here.
We can talk about it slowly, or we don’t have to talk about it at
all.”
The small body in her arms was trembling violently.
Kevin grabbed the front of her shirt, his voice trembling.
“Mommy, if I’m not a good boy, will you be unhappy and stop. loving me?”
Madeleine frowned.
She and Roderick were right. Kevin’s problem had indeed gotten
worse again.
He had reverted to how he was in the first few days after she
lost her memory.
Flustered, insecure, and emotionally unstable.
“Never.”
Madeleine said firmly, clutching the little guy’s palm.

Kevin sniffled. “I didn’t cut myself, Mommy. I was accidentally
scratched by a tree branch.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
Madeleine breathed a little easier.
“So you were worried we would blame you, and you were
scared, that’s why you didn’t want to say anything, right?”
Kevin didn’t speak, his head lowered as he mumbled, “This little
scratch is nothing. I didn’t want you to worry.”
This child…
A pang went through Madeleine’s heart.
She suddenly thought of something and asked tentatively, “Kev,
have you… seen Mr. Osborn recently?”
Kevin looked up in surprise.
Half an hour later, Madeleine left the hospital with Kevin. The
wound had been disinfected and treated.
After bringing the child home, Madeleine asked Kirsten to

watch him and went straight to the study.
Roderick had just finished a phone call. Seeing Madeleine come
in, he said with a serious expression:
“You’re back just in time. I have something to tell you.”
Madeleine’s brow twitched. “I have something to tell you, too.”
As their eyes met, they both realized they were about to say the
same thing.
On Monday, luxury cars were parked outside Rosebud
Kindergarten as the children trickled into the school.
It was activity day, so after their morning lessons, the kids
would get to join in the fun in the afternoon.
Right then, the principal was reviewing the schedule for the
day’s activities.
“Everything’s in order. Thank you so much, Nanette. I’m sure
that with the help of a professional child psychologist, the
children will thrive.”
Standing before the principal, Nanette, who was wearing a long
dress, had a gentle smile on her face.

“I should be the one thanking you. It’s thanks to your trust that I
get to work and live with such a lovely group of children.”
“You’re too kind.”
The principal said with a smile, just as a teacher came in and
whispered something in her ear.
She asked in a confused whisper, “Right now?
In my office?”
“Yes, they’ve already arrived.”
The principal’s expression immediately turned serious. She
nodded, said goodbye to Nanette, and hurried away.
Nanette stuck her hands in her coat pockets and walked into
her office, feeling great.
She turned on the security camera feed on her computer, which
clearly showed what the children in each classroom were doing.
This was a privilege for the psychologist. Her daily job was to observe the children and watch for any signs of psychological
issues.
Nanette leaned back in her chair, her gaze dark as it fell on a

corner of the monitor.
On the screen, Kevin was clapping along with the teacher,
learning that day’s English song. He looked expressionless,
neither happy nor sad.
“Heh.”
Nanette let out a scornful laugh, crossing her arms with a smug
look on her face.
It wouldn’t be long now. Kevin’s psychological problems would
relapse, and as the person who once gave him the most
security, she would definitely be able to get back to his side.
A fire ignited inside Nanette at the thought.
She just couldn’t figure it out. She had been doing so well with
the Livingston family for the past two years, and that Madeleine
didn’t seem like she could get back together with Roderick.
According to her strategy, she should have been able to
infiltrate the Livingston family and replace Madeleine.
Why did the plan fail!

Roderick fired her without saying a word, a complete one–eighty
in his attitude.
