Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 112
Chapter 112
“Some went abroad, some moved to other cities. I checked my
old contacts for them, but I’ve lost touch with all of them.”
For a moment, Rebecca didn’t know what to say, her heart
aching for her.
It made sense. Although she was in her twenties, her mind was
still that of an eighteen–year–old.
Suddenly thrown into an unfamiliar environment, with no close
friends around.
How pitiful.
Hmm… I should buy her something later to cheer her up.
And so, the money Rebecca had just received from Madeleine
was spent right back on her, buying her a nice set of jewelry.
“Thank you, Rebecca. You’re so good to me.”
Rebecca raised an eyebrow. Seeing Madeleine smile so happily
at her felt pretty damn good.
Chapter 112
She asked out of nowhere, “How does he compare to
Roderick?”
“Even better than Roderick!
He’s never even bought me any jewelry.”
Rebecca’s lips twitched when she heard that.
Others might not know, but she knew better.
For the past few years, every time she traveled abroad for work and saw a jewelry show, she had to buy something for Roderick
to give to his wife.
Had Madeleine really never been in her own jewelry room?
“Alright, we’re done with your shopping, now it’s my turn. I need
to buy an outfit for dinner tonight.”
“A battle outfit!”
Madeleine got excited, rubbing her hands together and saying, “I’ll definitely help you pick the perfect one, so you can knock
that old–fashioned gentleman of yours dead.”
Rebecca didn’t say anything, just drove Madeleine to a street
not far from the mall.
Chapter 112
A pedestrian street.
The kind that was filled with street vendors.
There were not only various stalls hawking their goods, but also many clothing shops with clothes hanging outside under “Huge
Sale” signs.
Madeleine asked uncertainly, “When you said you were buying
clothes, you don’t mean… here, do you?”
“Yes.”
“No way, how can that be a battle outfit?
Rebecca glanced at Madeleine, “You don’t get it. It’s a strategic
necessity.”
With that, carrying her designer bag worth hundreds of
thousands, she walked into a women’s clothing store where the
average item cost less than twenty dollars.
Madeleine’s jaw dropped in shock.
She knew Rebecca was obsessed with money, but she didn’t
think she was this cheap!
Chapter 112
?
A dress was priced at two–eighty, but after three rounds of
intense haggling, Rebecca got it for one–twenty. Madeleine was
stunned just listening from the side.
She thought Rebecca only haggled during business
negotiations!
When Rebecca came out of the fitting room in a gentle, white
long dress, Madeleine frowned.
“It doesn’t look good?”
“No, it’s very pretty. It just doesn’t seem like you.”
Rebecca nodded, undid her ponytail, and let her hair cascade
down like a waterfall.
“The point is for it to not be like me. My Persona tonight is the
poor but hardworking damsel in distress trope, get it?”
Madeleine’s mouth fell slightly open.
So this was how Rebecca planned to chase a man.
But she couldn’t hide her natural heiress aura at all. Who would
believe it?
Chapter 112
Then again, you never know. The guy is an old fossil. What
could an old fossil possibly figure out? He might actually fall for
“I’ll keep my phone on. Just tell me if you need anything. I’m an
expert at flirting with men.”
“Oh? I bet you flirt with Roderick all the time, don’t you?”
“What are you talking about!”
Madeleine said with a straight face, then raised her eyebrows
smugly, “He doesn’t need any flirting.”
Rebecca rolled her eyes to the heavens.
She was going to meet that old fossil, so she couldn’t take
Madeleine home and had her call the family driver to pick her up
ahead of time.
When Mathew drove over, he found them on the pedestrian
street and asked strangely if they were lost.
“Nope, we’re shopping here.”
“Shopping?
Ma’am, you’re really something else.”
Chapter 112
Mathew chuckled as he turned the car and drove off.
After a short while, Madeleine noticed they weren’t on the road
home.
“Huh? Aren’t we going back? Roderick said we were having
dinner together tonight.”
“Sir said you’ll be eating out tonight, and that I should bring you
straight there after picking you up, Ma’am.”
Madeleine acknowledged with a nod.
Tired from all the walking and shopping, Madeleine leaned
against the car window and dozed off for a bit.
In a daze, she started dreaming again.
In the dream, she was in the first–person. Around her was the
familiar villa, along with Roderick, Kevin, Kirsten…
But every one of them looked at her like she was a stranger.
Before Madeleine could figure out what was happening, a huge wave of heartache washed over her, so painful she couldn’t
breathe.
