The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 108

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 108

Chapter 108

So Kirsten didn’t notice the dark look he hid in his eyes as he

lowered his head.

…

After replying to Roderick’s message about having dinner

tonight, Madeleine turned her head, ready for some gossip.

“Rebecca, who are you meeting tonight?”

Rebecca let out an annoyed ‘tsk‘.

“I told you not to call me that.”

It makes me sound old.

“Oh, alright then. I’ll just call you by your name. Hehe. So, are

you meeting that guy you mentioned? Need me to pass on

some of my expertise? It’s free, you know.”

On any other topic, the word “free” would have definitely caught

Rebecca’s attention.

But on this matter…

Chapter 108

Rebecca had a strange look on her face. She thought for a

moment before shaking her head. “No thanks. I don’t think

you’d be any help.”

“Why not?”

“Because that guy isn’t like Roderick.”

“How is he different?”

“Roderick’s a hopeless romantic. Is there even a comparison!”

That got Madeleine even more interested.

Looks like my guess was right, Rebecca has something going

But…

In Madeleine’s mind, Rebecca was a career woman; the

Rebecca she’d gotten to know these past few days was

basically a machine with no emotions.

She’s an only child, her family is in the pharma and biotech

industry, and Roderick mentioned that when Rebecca was a

child, the company went bankrupt, and the current Whitman

group was rebuilt after surviving that ordeal.

Chapter 108

She was originally very interested in aerospace technology; her

childhood dream was always to go into space research.

But after her family’s troubles, she completely changed,

studying everything from biotech to business, going abroad for

several years, and then coming back to take over the family

company.

In Rebecca’s eyes, the company, money, and power were more

important than anything.

So Madeleine felt that for someone like her, forget about

actively pursuing a man, even just dating seemed unlikely.

“Hopeless romantics are made, not born. Why don’t you tell me

what he’s like, and I’ll help you analyze the situation.”

Rebecca gripped the steering wheel, thought for a moment, and

said:

“An old fossil.”

Madeleine missed the point, only catching the “old” part, and

her eyes immediately widened.

“How old is he?

Chapter 108

I don’t mean to be discriminatory, but I just think, wouldn’t a big

age gap be a problem? What if there’s a generation gap, or if his health starts failing in a few years or something…”

“Madeleine!”

Rebecca practically spat out her name through gritted teeth.

Did she lose a few years of memory, or a few brain cells?

“What? What’s wrong?”

Startled by her shouting, Madeleine quickly grabbed the handle

on the door.

Rebecca took a deep breath. “I said an old fossil. Fossil, not old,

okay?

He’s only two years older than me.”

MR DAIR

“Oh, you should have just said so. How is he a fossil?”

“He’s impossible to flirt with. Totally dense.”

Madeleine looked at Rebecca for a long moment without saying

anything.

It was hard to say who was more dense. With Rebecca’s

Chapter 108

personality, she knew how to flirt?

If she knew how, Madeleine would eat her hat.

No way. I have to send Rebecca a few novels to read when I get

back.

Rebecca couldn’t be bothered to talk about him anymore and

changed the subject to Madeleine.

“You still haven’t told me why you’re so set on going to the

psychiatric hospital. That Zoe, have you remembered what your

relationship with her was?”

“No.”

Madeleine sighed and leaned back in her seat. “Just curious. I

want to go take a look.”

Rebecca shot her a sideways glance.

“Tch, fine, don’t tell me then.”

Soon, the car stopped in front of the psychiatric hospital. A

security guard told them there were no parking spots inside and

they had to park across the street.

“You get out first. Wait for me at the entrance.”

Chapter 108

“Okay.”

Madeleine got out of the car, holding a bouquet of flowers she

had just bought on the way.

Even though she didn’t know what her relationship with Zoe

was, you can’t visit a patient empty–handed, right?

Visiting a psychiatric patient is different from a regular one; the

hospital won’t let you in without a registered appointment,

which Rebecca had arranged, so Madeleine could only wait

obediently for her to park the car and take her inside.

As she was holding the flowers and peering through the iron

fence to see what the psychiatric hospital looked like inside, a

doubtful voice suddenly came from beside her.

“You’re… Madeleine?”

Madeleine turned around to see a young man standing before her, with sharp features and a thin frame, looking pale as if he’d

suffered a major blow.

She thought for a moment; she didn’t seem to know him.

Hmm…
