The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 106

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 106

Chapter 106

“I believe what you just said now. We really were in love.”

It was hard not to fall in love with this version of Roderick.

Roderick chuckled, his gaze suddenly deepening as it moved

down from her eyes to her red lips.

He suddenly leaned in, his target precisely aimed at

Madeleine’s lips.

But unfortunately, it was a noble effort, tragically cut short, as

Madeleine placed a hand on his chest.

“Roderick!”

Madeleine’s voice was tinged with nervousness.

“Don’t go back on your word.”

She was incredibly nervous. She wasn’t sure of her own feelings yet, and she still hadn’t gotten her memory back.

To just do it like this, all confused…

No, no way.

Madeleine’s refusal was firm and decisive.

Disappointment clearly flashed across Roderick’s face. He

nodded and replied, “Got it.”

As he spoke, he suddenly reached out again.

“What are you doing?”

“Turning off the light.”

“Aren’t you going back to the guest room to sleep?”

“I already promised I wouldn’t do anything. What’s wrong with

letting me sleep in my own bedroom for one night?”

He got up and reached for the lamp on Madeleine’s side of the

bed, his body close. Madeleine shrank back, not daring to

move.

She thought he would lie back down after turning off the light,

but instead, he wrapped a long arm around her, pulling her

whole body into his warm embrace.

“Ricki, you…”

“Don’t move.”

His voice was low, carrying a hint of a warning. “I said I wouldn’t

touch you, but I never said I wouldn’t hold you.”

Madeleine instantly froze, her cheek pressed against his chest,

where she could clearly hear his strong heartbeat.

This distance was too dangerous.

Madeleine didn’t dare to move again. Her mind had been filled

with messy thoughts, but being held by Roderick like this

suddenly made her mind go blank.

Perfect. Time to sleep.

Five minutes later, Roderick listened to Madeleine’s steady

breathing and let out a long sigh.

When Madeleine slept, she always liked to curl up, burrowing

into his arms like a little kitten.

Now, her hair was splayed across the crook of his arm, a faint

fragrance lingering at the tip of his nose.

He regretted it.

He shouldn’t have listened to her and insisted on lying down,

and he shouldn’t have reached out to hold her.

Having a soft, warm woman in his arms, yet only being able to

look and not touch, was absolute torture.

Roderick stared at the ceiling, a helpless smile tugging at the

corner of his mouth.

In the following days, Roderick always found various excuses to

sleep in the master bedroom.

At first, Madeleine was on guard, but later, when she saw he

really was just looking for a sleeping buddy, she stopped

resisting.

It was perfect. Before sleeping, she could ask him a lot about

business and investment. Sometimes she’d fall asleep while

asking, which was more effective than any sleep–aid streamer.

Over these few days, Kirsten, Roy, and the others saw their relationship visibly warming up, and they were all incredibly

excited.

“Kirsten, do you think we’re about to have a new little master or

miss?”

Kirsten laughed out loud, “That must be it. Oh, no, I have to go

review my professional childcare certificate and maternity care

license. Can’t let my professional knowledge get rusty.”

Roy was impressed. Kirsten really knew what she was doing.

On Saturday, Madeleine woke up early, played with her child for

a bit, but she was distracted and kept checking the time.

After Roderick found out she was going out with Rebecca, he

thought it over and over but still felt uneasy.

“Are you really going out with Rebecca?”

“Yeah.”

။

Madeleine nodded, “I don’t really have any other friends, so it’s

just her.”

Roderick frowned, thought for a moment, and then began to

explain unnecessarily:

“Did you hear some rumors going around?”

“Don’t overthink it. There’s nothing between me and Rebecca.

Over the past few years, many business partners tried to push

women on me, and Rebecca was the one who helped fend

them off. It’s true that some gossip got out because of it.”

“And at the company, it’s in their nature to gossip. If you hear

anything, you can tell Gerry, and he’ll go straighten them out.”

Madeleine was completely confused.

“What are you even talking about? Rebecca and I are just going

shopping and grabbing a bite. Can you not think of us girls as

so malicious?”

She slung her bag over her shoulder and started to walk out,

patting Roderick on the shoulder as she passed him.

“Girls don’t do that whole catfight thing anymore. Besides, why

would Rebecca even be interested in you?”

She giggled after saying that and trotted out.
