The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 92

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash 92

Chapter 92

Roderick, seeing how focused she was, couldn’t help but glance

over and smile.

“Figure anything out?”

“He’s going to bid on the North City Science Park?”

Madeleine narrowed her eyes, then remembered something

Roderick seemed to have said earlier.

“You just said that the land seems remote, but there are

whispers that the government policy is favorable, and whoever

gets that project is guaranteed to make a profit.”

Roderick nodded. “Edward has probably heard the news

already. If things go as expected, he’ll do everything he can to

get it. That’s also why he’s been causing trouble for us lately.

The Livingston Group is his biggest competitor right now.”

Madeleine’s expression turned serious. “So what do we do?

How do we snatch it from him?”

Roderick chuckled. “Who said I was going to snatch it?”

Chapter 92

Madeleine: ?

“Ricki, since when did you become so generous? You’re not

even going after your love rival anymore!”

Roderick was left speechless by her comment.

So now you realize he’s a love rival?

Since he’s a rival, how could I possibly let him off the hook?

Roderick picked up the pen on his desk. “This pen costs a

hundred thousand.”

Madeleine: So?

Are you showing off your wealth, buddy?

“Do you know what’s more frustrating than not being able to

buy this hundred–thousand–dollar pen?”

Madeleine shook her head.

“It’s buying it for a million.”

Roderick wore a smile, his lips holding the familiar scheming

look Madeleine knew so well.

Chapter 92

She zoned out for a moment; it was as if that cheeky Ricki from

their childhood had appeared before her.

Madeleine was smart. With just that hint, she immediately

figured out Roderick’s plan.

But she was a little worried. “Edward isn’t an easy person to

deal with. You think you can bluff him into actually raising his

bid?

He’s not some rich idiot.”

“He’s not an idiot, but he’s too confident, arrogant even.”

Roderick tapped the desk with the pen in his hand, his tone low. “Edward has had it too easy these past few years. Everything he

wants falls right into his lap.”

Madeleine pouted. Of course he’s had it easy. He’s the author’s golden boy. All the good stuff gets thrown his way, whether he

deserves it or not.

“The more that happens, the more confident he becomes that he can get anything he wants.”

Madeleine frowned with worry. “But if you drive up the price

now, he’ll get suspicious.”

Chapter 92

“Don’t worry, I have a plan.”

Just as he said that, Gerry came and knocked on the door.

He walked in to see Madeleine sitting right next to the CEO, and

an awkward expression washed over his face.

“Did I come at a bad time?”

Roderick shot him a look.

You know you did, and you still said it.

Madeleine had a good impression of Gerry, and her face lit up

with a smile the moment she saw him.

“It’s fine, come on in.”

Gerry glanced at the CEO, and only entered after seeing that he

hadn’t said anything.

“There are a few documents that need the CEO’s signature.”

Roderick reached for them and signed his name with that same hundred–thousand–dollar pen.

“Huh, what’s that in your hand?”

Chapter 92

Seeing an exquisite golden envelope in Gerry’s hand, Madeleine

asked out of curiosity.

“Oh, this? It’s an invitation to the Asia–Pacific Economic Summit

that just arrived.”

After explaining, he asked Roderick, “Should we follow the usual

plan and have the VP go?”

Roderick was about to nod when he heard Madeleine ask

slowly, “This summit… will Edward be there?”

Alarm bells instantly went off in Gerry’s head. He looked at his

boss in terror, too scared to even breathe.

An employee’s life is a life too!

The boss’s wife was asking him so innocently about her “lover.”

How could he dare to answer? Could he?!

The office was silent for a full ten seconds, which Madeleine

found strange.

“Is that a hard question to answer?”

“Well…”

Chapter 92

Gerry glanced nervously at the CEO again.

Thankfully, before his heart could stop, the CEO’s voice rang

out: “Based on previous years, yes.”

“Then let’s go too.”

Madeleine’s eyes sparkled as she stared at Roderick with a

smile. “I’ve never been to an event like this. Do I have to wear a

formal gown?”

Roderick could tell she had something else in mind.

“What are you planning?”

Madeleine giggled, leaned close to his ear, and whispered, “I’ll

be the bait.”

Her warm breath brushed against Roderick’s ear. His body

tensed almost imperceptibly, and his Adam’s apple bobbed

uncontrollably a couple of times, looking incredibly sexy.

As a man, Gerry understood instantly and tactfully hurried out.

Madeleine, unaware she was the one causing the “heat,” turned

her head in confusion to look where Gerry had disappeared.
